Title: Tables, I just don't get it.
Post by: ElisabetK on 18 February 2017, 09:07:36 PM
OK, I've been playing here a while now, mostly against bots though I did get some games against humans using the quick match or good match (not that those are explained anywhere outside these forums!). I've also figured out how to create a table of three or four bots to play against, once again not because the game interface led me in that direction.

Those are all games I've created myself. I'd like very much to try joining a table to play against more than one opponent, but I can't seem to do that.

The tables list jumps around so quickly that whenever I think I see what I want it has moved before I click. There doesn't seem to be any way to sort these, so even when I think I have a real possibility, if I manage to get in the table I click "ready", and either nothing at all happens ever or the host leaves. I didn't think I was that repulsive, but oh well.

On top of that there often seem to be multiple tables with the same host name. I don't ever click on those because I assume that a) the host is only actually in one place, and b) there's probably some bug and chances are 4/5 (or whatever) that it's not a real table anyway.

A little guidance on the tables page would go a long way here. I don't care about loading old games, I just want - occasionally - to play a game of three or more with a real opponent.

Sorry if this sounds negative, but honestly I'm frustrated.

I completely agree. The tables need to be sortable. They at least need to stop jumping around.

Also, it would be good to get rid of the range for number of players like someone suggested in another thread. Number of players at a table should be a set number, not a range.

I agree and the same goes for trying to spectate at a table as well. The table appears to blink in and out of existence and I inevitably end up at a table with the bot at my first attempts.

I agree that the tables view still makes very little sense, and sorry for the frustrations that causes.

The only use for myself at the moment, is to check if a league game is perhaps in progress when I'm online. Even if one should be, it takes a while to find it and another while to get to the table. Players who are interested in more than 2p games must be a lot more frustrated. The table list in its current form certainly doesn't aid them in finding a game.

I do like the concept of tables. Often, I don't have enough time to play a real game against a real person, but I wouldn't mind seeing how people play a set. So I'll just try a random table and see what's going on. Sure, you find a bot game sometimes, and it would be nice to be able to sort the list, but it's not hard to leave and find a new game.

I do feel a little creepy, though, being some random dude watching some other people play cards. It's like being that kid in the arcade watching that other kid play Dig Dug.

Also, I did join a table that a *Dominion* friend was at (someone I never met in real life) and they asked me to make it a 3p game. I didn't have time, so I didn't play, but I could see that happening as you develop a community of folks who enjoy playing the game together.
