Title: Possession + Fugitive
Post by: santamonica811 on 01 February 2018, 05:47:24 AM
Game: 11186890 Tokyo (against Lord Rat)

Turn 12.  (I might have used Undo to play the game a different way, after running into this bug?/phenomenon.  I'm--at the moment--not remembering if I played the game out faithfully, or, if I used Undo to play the turn more traditionally.  So, I'm not sure what the game log will show for this Turn 12.)

Played Possession + Fugitive.  It correctly played Fugitive two times.  And then trashed Fugitive.  But I should have then received a "5" card, right?  Before playing the combo, I was wondering, "Will the game automatically give me the next Traveler in the series (ie, the "5" value Traveler)?  Or will I be forced to pick one of the 5-value cards from the regular, non-Traveler, kingdom?"

There is certainly nothing in the Possession text that says, "Will get greater-value card only if played-and-trashed original card came from the supply." or anything like that.  Was this combo just not anticipated at the time Possession was created, so the result ends up being counter-intuitive?  Or, was this a true bug?

You mean Procession and not Possession.

There's not really an ambiguity, because you can always only gain cards from supply unless something else is mentioned specifically. (for example Hermit says "...trash this and gain a Madman from the Madman pile.")

Otherwise, you could also ask why you can't gain a Disciple with Artisan.

Thanks.    (big oops re my typo...Possession vs Procession is a big one!!!  I hated Possession so much in the past; you'd have thought that I had managed to wipe it from my brain.  Nope, I guess.)  ;D

I had expected that answer about needing to get your upgraded Action card from the supply.  That does make total sense.

But that still does not explain the second half of my question...why was I not allowed to select an upgrade from the various 5-value cards that *were* in the kingdom???  I have never had the following kingdom (I've never played a game with Black Market and also Procession), but: If you buy a card via Black Market and later play a Procession on that card . . . do you get your upgrade after the 2x plus trashing?  I'd sure think so.  But I don't even know if the Black Market cards are considered part of the supply, or, are some "extra" category like Madman, Travelers, Events, etc etc.

Hi josh, there must be something very strange about your games, because it seems you always get the wrong game number.  :o The one you gave above is a game by you, but it does not contain Black Market, or Travellers or Procession.

I've appended a picture of the chat after I played a few bot game, and I think you may give the top number in the list instead of the bottom number (for the latest/current game).

As for your question: I don't know. If there was exactly one Action card in the supply that costs 5, it would have given you that card automatically (verifyed that in a test game just now). If there were more than 1, it should have asked. See attached picture of what it would look like, maybe you have mistaken that for the normal buy of the turn.

Also note that it must be an Action card that you gain, so Duchy or Vampire etc. are not possible.

Ingix,
Ah, mystery (partially) solved.  I've always been giving the TOP game number, rather than the last number.  No wonder why everyone has said, in response to my posts, some version of, "Are you SURE you correctly wrote down the game number?  I can't find that game!!!"  Heh.

In the game I played, there were at least 2-3 of the 5-value action cards and I made sure that (at least, according to the game log) I had not been awarded any upgraded card.  Of course, since there were multiple eligible 5-value cards, the game should not have automatically awarded me one, and should have given me a choice.

But I'll create a game right now with those two cards (Procession and Travelers) and will try it out for myself.  Oh yeah, plus a bunch of normal 5-value action cards.  :-)

[update]

When I created a game, it now works just fine.  But it absolutely did not before.  Really really odd...makes me sad that I did not correctly write down the game number.
