Excellent point twasa - this doesn't just apply to bot games, but to casual games v human(s) as well.

General Discussion / New Release - one tiny fix
01 April 2017, 06:46:19 PM
First I have to say that I really like the direction things are going overall. Unlike those who complained about the recent downtime, I have to say that overall the stability of the game has been great for me, way better than MF (or my cable TV provider :P), so great job. There is just one small but significant thing in the new Matching Tab that should be changed however: you have the 2 boxes labelled "Find a Game" and "Find a Practice Game". The wording "Find a Practice Game" is not the best. I don't know if you have any data on what percentage of all games played involve bots, but having looked at the table listings I'm sure it's significant. Some people like the advantages of playing bots - no worries about trolls, or about bothering anyone by playing slow, being able to come and go as you please, etc. To many, those are "real" games. To call them just "practice" games carries the connotation that they're not "real", that their proper use is only to prepare one to play "real" games. While you and those like you may see it that way, many do not. No worries, however, the fix is trivially easy: simply changing "Find a Practice Game" to "Find an Unrated Game" would solve this issue. I hope you will consider this for your next release.

No need to be sorry. It should just become "second nature" to write down the game number.
Thanks Ingix. I was "AFK" at the time using just my wireless mouse and HDMI connected TV so it would've been a hassle to get up just to find a way to record stuff. I checked the wiki, and looked so closely I felt sure this was a bug someone else could easily reproduce, which is why I posted anyways, but I guess not. Maybe another interaction was involved. In future, won't post bug unless I have game #.

For example, in http://forum.shuffleit.nl/index.php?topic=1226 one known bug is "Some (maybe all) Cards that affect the player to your left/right go the wrong way". Since I almost exclusively play 2-player games, I would never have caught this bug, because in 2-player, left=right.
I actually posted about that here: http://forum.shuffleit.nl/index.php?topic=1329.msg4188#msg4188 and from Watno's reply "I investigated this and the issue seems to be a confusion of left and right (on our side)." appear to have helped them discover this. (I noticed Treasure Hunter gaining(?) Silver was based on wrong player.)

It was late and I was too tired to take notes. I guess I messed up, sorry.

Had 2 buys/$14. Bought Dominate, then a Copper to get the 2 Labyrinth points - but I didn't get them. Dominate card text starts with "Gain a Province..." so I gained a Province and a Copper.

If you get to the castle screen that means a match has been found and it's now being loaded. If it doesn't load that's indicative of a bug. If next time you want to report it it's helpful to copy whatever the browser console says (ctrl+shift+j/cmd+option+j), particularly the game number and the last few lines so we can see at what point it got stuck.
Will do, thanks.

1. I guess I'm confused about Good Match. Today I clicked on it, for the briefest moment the screen that would allow me to cancel appeared, then I went right to the black screen with the castle and spinning circle and waited several minutes. I thought I would be able to cancel until a match was found. Please help.

2. Are game results currently being logged in secret, or will we all start even and let our skill determine our rankings anew? Between here and f.ds I think I've read both that there's "no-fault" resigning for now since results aren't being tracked, and that results are being logged. Which is it? Thanks.

Having deja vu. Almost identical thread here: http://forum.shuffleit.nl/index.php?topic=1291.msg4001. I pointed out issue, was corrected about 2nd edition rules, pointed out what yed did (which matters for in-game deck tracking), then got no response. Maybe this time?

A recent update purported to fix tiny reveal windows on some platform, maybe tablets? My guess is they fixed a problem for some and accidentally created one for others. Same issue for me (Firefox/Win10), noticed first on Envoy selection windows. Suggestion: try zooming in/out (Ctrl+/-) to see if it helps.

Given the default bot order, I only knew of Lord Rat and RW, then Lord V until given the whole list (thanks @Dwedit).

The "sexist" thing: this is not an issue for me in any way personally, but I live in hypersensitive America and it's hard not to think someone out there hasn't thought "Well the male bots are 'Lords' but the female bot's not only a 'Witch', but a 'Revenge Witch'. What's up with that?" That's just a side issue -- wish I hadn't mentioned it.

The "offensive" thing: I'm facing a health challenge and much of the time only feel up to playing bots. I prefer the 3p game, so I mostly play against 2 bots. @Watno's link to the thread showing Revenge Witch is basically the name of a site advertising occult services hopefully demonstrates why its use might make some uncomfortable, although I can also understand why others could see it as merely an inside joke. When I play Dominion, I would prefer to just play, not to battle a "Revenge Witch". I totally understand how most will see things differently and when I used the term "offensive" let me be clear that I just meant offensive to my own conscience, in other words difficult for me -- I'm not saying Si has done something wrong or should've known better, etc. My own last name is a title first given to a medieval Saxon warlord, so I get the medieval theme, really.

Has the name RW contributed to why I've only signed up for a month at a time and partly felt bad about doing so at all? Yes, it has. Would I feel better if Lord V were the default 2nd bot added? Yes, I would -- just being honest, here (although again, I appreciate the new workaround). Do I understand others considering that lame? Yes, I do -- but that's ok, I can handle it. If nothing else, Si's Dominion has been an interesting cultural experience interacting with others around the world I will always appreciate. I had no idea my post would engender so much discussion -- I really appreciate all the responses. (I probably won't post anymore for a while though -- too stressful for me right now, thanks.)

I had a similar issue yesterday: I had my table size set to 3-4 (just planning to play bots), added 3 bots then kicked Revenge Witch (I love the new Add Bot feature because it allows me to do this :) -- I just hate the name "Revenge" Witch >:( -- I think it's creepy, offensive, and sexist and really wish you would remove it as the default 2nd Bot addition), then a human player joined my table and clicked Ready and I thought "why not" so I clicked Ready repeatedly and nothing happened, even when all players were listed as Ready. (I've had no trouble starting with a range 3-4 against 2 bots.) (Win 10 desktop)

Ultimately, I believe that you have the right to play at a pace that is comfortable to you.  Sometimes there will be situations that demand extra time to think/read cards, other times you will be able to play fast since there are no decisions needed.
I both agree with and appreciate this remark. I see 2 main components to the pacing issue: 1. how long it takes to look at the initial board, analyze what card synergies/combos might exist and map out game strategy, and 2. how long it takes to make moves during the course of the game. IRL we always take a few minutes to look at a board before starting, although the social atmosphere, game setup, etc. make this a little easier to swallow than it would be for some OL, I guess.  But still, taking time before making opening moves is completely different than regularly taking lots of time for later turns, IMHO. I don't think anyone should complain if someone hasn't made their 1st move in 30 seconds. If you don't like it then finish the game politely and move on to play someone else. Now repeatedly taking 2 minutes between moves thereafter is a more legitimate concern.

1 thing I'd see in the MF global chat is some people looking for a "fast" game, others for a "relaxed" game. Maybe someday Si could have a feature where users could list their preferred pace of play in their profile and Matching could incorporate this to match users with like pacing preferences, or players could set up tables where only players with similar pacing preferences could join. That would be great.

There are many reasons why online Dominion isn't very newbie-friendly, which I won't get into
I could understand why you don't want to get into it, but you've sure got me curious...

It's been a while since this got me -- I'm certain it's not just Ironmonger -- Magpie comes to mind, too, but if you say it works ok for Apothecary, ... I guess we'll have to alert them on a case by case basis which cards aren't programmed properly.
