The Exile section of the Menagerie rulebook is very clear.

QuoteExiling a card from the Supply is not "gaining" the card, and will not cause "when you gain this" abilities to happen. Discarding a card from your Exile mat is not gaining it either.

This is how Voyage works. Unlike Outpost, that has a "If this is the first time you played an Outpost this turn" clause, Voyage lacks this. If you play X Voyages on a turn you get X extra turns, provided that at the time it was played, the previous turn wasn't yours.

All of the extra turn stuff works this way, but all the others have limits on each source. So if I played an Outpost, bought a Mission and activated Island Folk all on the same turn, I'd get three extra turns as long as the previous turn was not mine at the time each one was originally played / bought / activated.

pranco49 may be referring to the Townsfolk, in which case you rotate them by clicking on the supply pile at the appropriate time while resolving Town Crier or Battle Plan.

General Discussion / Re: rated game option
08 March 2022, 08:16:45 AM
Quote from: ppsacco on 08 March 2022, 03:16:28 AMHow else do you keep track of wins?
The same way people do everywhere else. A spreadsheet, pen and paper, a whiteboard, the options are limitless. This game's rating system is very bad for tracking wins, there is no win:loss ratio and each game will move the number by a different amount depending on the matchup. And what happens if someone then plays on rated automatch with their account? Well now your win / loss tracking is completely out of whack. If you want a win tracker, this definitely isn't the system for that.

Quote from: ppsacco on 08 March 2022, 03:16:28 AMThe whole point is to rate the players, what difference does it make if they are custom sets or not...I'll tell you why...custom sets are a LOT more challenging than random sets.
Yeah because the people who shoot up to the top of the leaderboard by playing the same kingdom over and over, a thing that has actually happened many times, sure is a challenge. I am sure your friends don't utilise that particular loophole, but it's not one that should exist. And its a waste of everyone's time having to investigate and ban accounts when that time could be spent elsewhere. Rating systems only work when everyone's playing under similar conditions, and cooked boards are definitely not that.

Quote from: ppsacco on 08 March 2022, 03:16:28 AMI've been playing this game since before it moved to this server and we have TWO random sets we've played over the years that had any real comparative challenge in them.  You may get two good cards working together in a random set, maybe three...certainly no more than that and there is no theme.  A created kingdom offers far more challenge as well as a great theme.
If random kingdoms are so much less challenging, I look forward to seeing you on top of the leaderboard or league soon because of all your experience playing Dominion only on hard mode. It's cool that you love playing designed boards with your friends, I am not in any way going to claim that's a wrong way to enjoy Dominion or anything like that. The thing with designing boards though, is that you tend to lose the unexpected synergies that make full random so challenging. Cards don't have to synergise in obvious ways in order to synergise. If you think random boards only tend to have two or three cards that work together maybe you are unable to see boards for their true challenge because you're too used to playing only on boards that blast out their synergies into your face like a foghorn. Of course, sometimes random kingdoms really are 6 village piles or Wharf-Big Money, but they are the rare exception.

Actually, scripts to slow play existed in other implementations too, Dominion has sadly always had this troll problem. They would play Coppers one at a time just before the timeout clock ran out to reset it, just like they can in this implementation too, although admittedly they couldn't stall forever.

Being able to undo is a great feature and should stay, but I agree that ShuffleIt should do more to automatically detect slowplay or undo scripts. The abuse is the issue, the game would play much worse if you couldn't freely undo autoplay treasures, just so many mistakes made all the time.

In the meantime, why are you sitting in a game for 40+ minutes? Just resign and blacklist.

If you are playing with friends, why do the games need to be rated?
#7
You don't get to customise the kingdom at all if you want to play rated. The limited ban and dislike lists and the card pool level are the only way you are allowed to modify things.

Honestly I'm surprised it's still even an option when you create a table, as being able to choose your opponent is surely also against the spirit of rated.

How to Play / Re: First automatch game since ...
02 March 2022, 11:35:49 PM
In case you missed it, this week the upcoming expansion Allies is being previewed. You can find the previews explaining the cards here:

http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?board=1.0

You will have an option for automatch called Previews. This lets you play with the previewed cards, but games with previews are forced to be unrated. Turn off the previews option if you want things to go back to normal.

Card Bugs / Re: Exiled Ill Gotten Gains

Quote from: leafyscreen on 02 March 2022, 02:50:45 PMIt is gained when it is taken out of exile.
Incorrect. It is discarded when discarded from Exile. Exiling directly from the supply e.g. via Camel Train is one of a few ways to put cards into your deck without triggering an on-gain ability.

No, the set is not released yet. Currently you can play with the cards previewed by Donald X, you can find the previews in threads created here:

http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?board=1.0

There will be another preview every weekday this week. It is unlikely that all the cards in the set will be previewed, so for the rest you'll have to wait for the release.

At the time of writing there is no set release date, but mid-March very likely.

How to Play / Re: Dominion: Allies rules?
28 February 2022, 12:12:10 PM
When you first logged in after todays update there should have been a message with links to the previews. You can find them posted as threads here:

http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?board=1.0

There will be a new thread posted each day this week, with new cards.

The full rulebook for the expansion won't be available until release, which is hopefully mid-March but there's still no confirmed release date.

Card Bugs / Re: Diplomat double-reacting to Catapult
24 February 2022, 08:34:06 AM
Diplomat can be reacted any number of times to an attack until your hand goes down to 4 cards (the reaction drops your handsize by 1 each time). I presume you had more than 5 cards to start with, e.g. your opponent bought Lost City or played Council Room, or you bought Save last turn, etc.

General Discussion / Re: Discussion of Rule Changes
22 February 2022, 12:43:00 PM
Just so you are aware, all of these changes have come from Donald X, Dominion's designer, rather than ShuffleIt, and all were done to primarily to smooth out rules confusion, rather than considerations to buff or nerf cards. So there will never be changes like e.g. making Prince cheaper.

For example, I know the change to Patron was because the new coffers rule resulted in infinite money when combined with the Persue event, rather than an aim to buff or nerf other combos. Can't comment on any of the other changes though.

Steam, not Stream.

Steam is a storefront for PC games, owned by Valve (the company that made Half-Life, Portal, etc)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1131620

(Just for clarity, to anyone else reading this, the Temple Gate Games implementation of Dominion linked to above, is made by a different company that has nothing to do with ShuffleIt, discussion of it should probably go on the Steam community page for the app, or the Temple Gate Games discord, which I think is linked to in the Steam discussions)

Advisor does not draw cards. It reveals 3, then discards one of your opponent's choice, and the other two are put into your hand.

As you are putting cards into your hand, rather than putting them back onto your deck then +2 Cards, this is not card draw, and so is not chameleonable.

Note that Way of the Chameleon specifically calls out + Cards, but there is no + Cards written anywhere on Advisor.

Playing Advisor as Way of the Chameleon should not be any functionally different to playing it without.
