Card Bugs / Alchemist + Way
08 September 2023, 03:09:05 AM
When I play Alchemist using a Way, it gives me the option to topdeck that Alchemist, so long as I have a potion in play.

My understanding is that this should no longer be the case, now that Alchemist has lost its dividing line.

YES! That's it.

You can load this game from my perspective, hit "End Actions" and "End Buys" and watch exactly what you describe happen when Lord Rattington completes his turn.

I've seen it again twice now, with different cards in the discard pile. So it's definitely not a Sceptre thing.

I think it might be related to having Fortune in the kingdom.

I noticed it when spectating Dan Brooks' recent match. Game 31084629 on Turn 18, but I haven't been able to recreate it with Rattington.

When playing around with that seed, I also observed that Fortune sometimes loses the debt symbol in the opponent's discard pile. Part of the same issue?

Weeeeeeeeird! I can't replicate it either. And I've tried a LOT of stuff.

I can't remember the game or the opponent . . . but, like, that's a screencap. It happened!

When I saw a sceptre in my opponent's discard pile, it appeared to have some debt in its cost.

I guess it technically has some amount of debt in its cost, it's just that the amount is zero, so that hexagon's a bit confusing.

Just tested, and the related interaction of Inherited-Estate-as-Peasant/Page DOES allow exchanges. Not sure if that helps.

In a recent game, I tried to exchange an Overlord-as-Peasant for a Soldier and it didn't work. I toyed around, and the same problem exists for Band of Misfits and Page.

According to my read of the cards, this exchange should be possible. It also says so in the wiki: http://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Band_of_misfits

Of course, it's only relevant in edge cases, and the no-exchange is probably better than the accidental "I couldn't tell which one was the real Peasant" exchange, but it still cost me some endgame Triumphal Arch points tonight, and I'm mad.

No, I'm not actually mad.

Card Bugs / Hamlet Discard
23 January 2019, 08:55:35 PM
So, I recently played a game with Hamlet. I was doing a bunch of draw-to-X stuff, so all of my payload was disappearing and my hand size was often small. By the time I played my last Hamlet, I had just one card in hand. I discarded the last card in my hand to receive +action just because I felt like it, and then I was surprised to be presented with the option to "discard" for +buy. I tried, and it worked. I discarded nothing and still received a +buy.

Now I realize that this will practically never matter. I guess I could find an edge case where I Innovate something with +cards and draw up a Diadem and the combination of one extra coin and one extra buy allows me to buy something that I wouldn't otherwise, and maybe that wins me the game . . . but that's a stretch.

Still, it's not how the card should work, so I thought I'd report it.

Interface Issues / Gaining Inn from the Trash
12 October 2018, 04:00:01 AM
I just had a game where I played Lurker to gain an Inn from the trash. When I wanted to select actions to shuffle into my deck, it would only allow me to select only one copy of each different action. It would not allow me to choose two or more from any stack of actions.

This was not a problem when I bought an Inn, only when I gained it from the trash via Lurker.

So I played around and it seems like this issue is specific to gaining the Inn from the trash. If I gain INN with a workshop variant, it seems to work fine, but I tried Graverobber, and it was busted too.

Confusingly, everything works fine for an Inn gained with Rogue if gaining Inn is the only available option. If there are two options to gain in the trash and you choose Inn, then you get the broken interface. I guess somehow having a choice is what's triggering the bug.

If you like, go to game #19224624 - Decision 146, from my perspective. You can discard the Secret Passage and the Copper and then play the Graverobber to see how it freezes up. Alternatively, play the Rogue to see how it doesn't freeze because there is no choice involved.

Apologies if this is a known issue. I couldn't see it in the forums anywhere.

Game Log Issues / Points Confusion with Tower
25 March 2018, 04:56:07 PM
Very minor thing, really.

I played a game against Rattington (12915168) and played to see how many Tower points I could get on this board. I mean, it's Rattington, why not mess around?  I ended up getting 37 cards from empty piles by the end of the game. But when the end-game screen loaded, it said that I only got 28 points. The good news is that my actual score reflected the 37 points, so it didn't change the outcome of the game, it only made for some confusion on my part.

I suspect that the problem might have had something to do with the fact that at one point I emptied the Page pile, but then exchanged later exchanged the Page to stop the game from ending. At the end of the game, I bought the same Page once again. Maybe that messed up the count?

1. An offline client, allowing you to play campaigns against bots
Yes. This is my number 1 priority. It's a great way to learn, plus I like trying to find a way to try to beat bot with specific (strong) strategy on a specific board.

2. A bot with a setting for different play styles
3. A strong bot.
Yes to both. High priority. Especially the strong bot. I have no idea if half the stuff I try is actually good, or if it just beats Rattington.

4. Options for timed games
Don't care. Wouldn't use.

5. Options for undo settings
I'm happy with undo as it is.

6. Online mini-tournaments; the option to easily create one for you & your friends.
Meh.

7. Option to invite specific players to your table
Not essential. Would be nice to be able to avoid strangers hopping onto a table that you're making for a friend.

8. More translations (to what language?)
Not for me.

9. Better animations when cards are gained/bought/played/...
Meh. Don't care too much.

10. Better visualization of split piles, Archive/Crypt contents, Prince targets, ...
Yes. This is important. In one game, I played a Peasant AND Overlorded a Peasant (I needed Buy), and I accidentally exchanged my Overlord!

10. Option to hide the log
No. Don't care.

11. Android app (or just improved compatibility?)
12. iPhone app (or just improved compatibility?)
Neither for me.

13. Downloadable game logs
Would be okay.

14. Improved moderation (dealing with chat abuse, slowplayers, ...)
I play only a little in the automatch. I've never dealt with any abuse.

15. Tutorial on how to play Dominion
16. Tutorial on how to play dominion online.
Not for me. But for new players, yes! Loved the tutorial island back at Making Fun.

To summarize, these are the things I care about (in order)
#1: Better bot(s)
#2: Campaigns
#3: Better visualization

The rest of it is fine the way it is, for me. One feature I'd love is a "replay/save this board" button. Or more instruction about how to use the game ID log stuff. I'm still not really clear on that, and I had no idea it was a thing for the longest time.

(I'm just Earl on the client, but I've already paid for subscriptions into 2019 I think, so it might not apply to me, and I don't care. I think you do amazing work with this game, and I love my online experience, and you've earned my money as far as I'm concerned.)

Hi, I can't see when having more than one Champion might be useful (though as there always seem to be exceptions to everything in Dominion I'd love to hear if anyone knows of such a time...)

You're way ahead and you want to rub it in by playing a Diadem worth something in the triple digits.

Interface Issues / Prince of Warriors
22 April 2017, 07:33:13 PM
Okay, this is a pretty specific circumstance, but I thought I'd report anyway.

I just played a game where I set aside a Warrior with Prince.  A couple of turns later, after Prince played Warrior for me, I played a few Pawns and then another Warrior from my hand.

At the end of the turn, I wanted to exchange the Warrior from my hand, but not the Warrior on the Prince. There was no clear way for me to tell which Warrior was which in the little Exchange/Keep menu. I sort of assumed that the top one was the one from my Prince, but the rest of the Travellers didn't appear in order, so I didn't feel confident in that.

Card Bugs / Re: Counterfeit + Coin of the Realm
20 February 2017, 08:52:20 PM
I had the same thing happen to me, but it wasn't just a visual bug. I only had one CoTR in my deck (it was a Black Market purchase), and I was able to build up an invisible reserve of them on my mat by counterfeiting every turn. I was then able to use the imaginary CoTRs, even when I had my real one in my hand. It was a whole new level of counterfeit.
