Yes, it's sincere. I should stop playing this and other games.

I know that no player is ever obliged to grant an undo, even if no information is gained; some players refuse ever to ask for, or grant, any undo on principle, and that's fine.  I just ran into a bit of an odd situation, though, that seems at least bad manners if not bad sportsmanship.

Duplicate, Border Village, and Swamp Hag were in play; I had a Duplicate on my Tavern mat and bought a Border Village while Swamp Hag was in effect.  I knew I would get a Curse, of course, but wanted to Duplicate the Border Village (and gain a second cheaper card); however, I accidentally called the Duplicate right after gaining the Curse (whoops)!

Not being a Stoic myself, I requested an undo, and put a note in the message box apologizing and explaining why I wanted it. My opponent merely sat there; he neither granted nor denied the undo, nor did he reply to my message. I posted another message saying that he was within his rights to refuse, but he should at least be willing to do so explicitly. He continued to ignore it, and I timed out and was auto-resigned shortly afterwards.

I admit that I knew that this would happen eventually; if he had denied the undo under the circumstances I would have been a bit annoyed, but I would have finished the game.  I was determined to make him explicitly deny the request if he wouldn't grant it, though.

Is it reasonable to expect that one's opponent will either grant or deny an undo (perhaps after first asking why one wanted it), or am I just being silly?

I need to quit because I'm too stupid to win or even to learn from losing; all my games do is depress me without teaching me anything (again, not because most players don't have a lot to teach me; I'm just incapable of learning).  And before you make the obvious suggestion, I'm not brave enough to do that, and it would probably be an even worse example for my kids than I pose by existing.

General Discussion / Resigning without comment
04 November 2018, 06:12:34 PM
Does anyone else feel that it is rude for an opponent to resign without saying anything, especially if he/she sets "Ready" afterwards (so that it clearly wasn't due to a sudden emergency)? Probably I'm just overly fussy . . .

General Discussion / Re: Offensive Language in Chat

I suspect that this user is at it again.  I had a game earlier where my opponent said the same thing in very nearly the same words.  Unlike the previous mentions, he didn't say anything for most of the game and used chat only for this parting shot before resigning, but it was nonetheless extremely rude.  I have blacklisted him.

Thanks to the mods for the maintaining the game and for dealing promptly with this sort of nonsense.

General Discussion / Re: Undo Request
30 December 2017, 07:45:42 PM
I would normally grant an undo request without expecting an explanation if no new information was gained at the last step.  On the other hand, if information was gained, I would normally ask for an explanation.  I suspect this is a fairly common opinion on the matter. Some people do refuse undo requests altogether, of course, and that's their prerogative.

General Discussion / Is it just me . . .
30 December 2017, 07:41:38 PM
Is it just me, or are most players less polite and chatty than formerly?  I do see frequent immediate resignations without explanation lately; the original poster is far from the only one.  I have usually assumed that, for some reason, the player in question has taken a dislike to me personally (although I don't know why), but the idea that one might resign simply because one doesn't like the board, at least without bothering to say so, strikes me as strange.  (Yes, some boards are a lot more fun than others, and certain cards (e.g., Rebuild, Possession) are particularly unpopular, but most of the immediate resignations I've seen lately haven't had obviously problematic boards.)
While good players (level 50+; I'm not good, and am unlikely ever to be) are less likely to do this, since it does hurt their rating, even good players seem less likely to bother with pleasantries such as "gg" lately.

Am I missing something?  Am I the one who's being (unconsciously) rude?  Or is this just the way things are lately?

This wouldn't have affected the outcome of the game I was in, but I just played a game against JoeDonahue in which
I ended a turn with 17 coin and 2 Buys (including +1 from Forum).  There was one Province left, plus Duchies and Silk Roads, so I could have bought a second Victory card; however, as soon as I bought the last Province, "The game has ended" button appeared and I wasn't allowed to take my second Buy.

It is true that I would have lost no matter what else happened, as I was too far behind anyway; I thought I actually had three Buys, such that Province+Duchy+Silk Road might have allowed me to squeak out a tie, but this wasn't true. Nonetheless, I don't see why I shouldn't have been allowed to take my last Buy anyway.  I don't see this in the list of known bugs, so I thought I'd mention it.  Thanks for taking the time to read this and, perhaps, to investigate!

Feature Requests / Re: Friends-only tables?
23 September 2017, 04:42:23 PM

Thank you!  That does seem to work, and I certainly never would have guessed that it would.  Of course, *inviting* your friends is still a problem, but that's a lot less annoying than having to kick people repeatedly.  Thank you again

Feature Requests / Friends-only tables?
03 September 2017, 08:48:28 PM
What I would like most is the option to challenge friends directly, or at least to make tables friends-only (the option already exists to limit spectators to friends, so adding the latter option does not seem too difficult).  I find it tiresome to have to keep typing "Friends only, please," and kicking people, and I doubt that the other players enjoy being kicked.

It is, of course, possible that most of the community may actually think that even having this option is undesirable, as competitive, rated play would seem to mean that players should be willing to play anyone close enough to their own rating.  My personal preference is for a friendly game and a pleasant chat, and not to care too much about ratings except possibly as an opportunity to learn from better players, but others almost certainly disagree.  If the reason this option hasn't been implemented is that ShuffleIT doesn't actually consider it desirable, please let me know.  I do very much appreciate their willingness to listen to user requests and suggestions.
