One thing I can say is that we had a single elimination bracket last year and are having one now that is already in the final match, last year we had some 300 players and this year we had around 250, each match consisting on playing 6 games. Last year the winner was the player generally considered the strongest player in the tournament by the community, and this year the player considered strongest is in the final match that has yet to be played. Sure there is a lot of luck, but there is always little decisions that make a ton of difference.

General Discussion / Dominion League - Season 26

Hello everyone! I'm here to make an invitation for anyone who wishes to participate in the Dominion League. It's a long living tournament run in the Dominion Strategy forums, and a great place for anyone who enjoys playing competitive Dominion, wants to learn more about the game, or would just like to test their strength against many nice opponents from all over the world. Anyone is welcome and the only requirements are having an online Dominion account (on Shuffle iT) and some free time to schedule with opponents. You will be put into a division according to your online rating and each division consists of one or more groups. In each group you will play 4 or 5 matches (which consists of 6 games of Dominion) over the course of 6 weeks. For further information on the rules and format of the Dominion League you can check here.

Now Season 26 is about to start over this weekend, but if you are interested in joining we still have a few openings and will be accepting new players for the next few days! Hello Stef! First I would like to say that I really enjoy the client and thank you for all your hard work! Now for the feedback!  :)


1. An offline client, allowing you to play campaigns against bots

I would definitely get this if available, but I don't really miss it at all actually. MF Campaigns were a good timekiller for when I wanted to play without focusing.


2. A bot with a setting for different play styles
 3. A strong bot.


I think a strong bot would be great, but I don't know how feasible that is. As long as it doesn't lock itself out of the game frequently and it's capable of playing somewhat decently something other than BM+X I would be really satisfied. For different play styles I do think that some form of BM+X bot would be great and doesn't sound too hard to implement, but not really necessary either. If you do succeed in making a good bot, I think that making an easier one would be important.


4. Options for timed games

I think I'm gonna go against the majority here, but I wouldn't really like to have timed games, or at least timed games as an option for random rated matchmaking, I feel liked it might create an unwanted division in the player base and I wouldn't really want for timed to be the standard option unless the clock would be really relaxed in a way that would almost never press you if you aren't slowplaying. That said if online mini-tournaments get implemented I think that it might be a good option for those.



5. Options for undo settings

I think that having two options for always grant no information undos and never grant new information undos would be good if isn't something too hard to implement. My main reasoning for wanting this though, is that i think they should be visible settings to the opponent which would avoid a lot of awkward scenarios like a player whose policy is no new info undos having to deny undos, which may cause some anger, and sometimes asking for very reasonable no information undos can be weird, specially in the endgame.


6. Online mini-tournaments; the option to easily create one for you & your friends. 

I can see this being a great idea.


7. Option to invite specific players to your table

I think the current system is fine, but something that helps not having to kick so many people from your table before a match would be good.


8. More translations (to what language?)

Even though English works just fine for me, I feel like having a Portuguese translation would be great to expand the community over here in Brazil. Luckily I know one is being worked on and shouldn't take very long to finish.


9. Better animations when cards are gained/bought/played/...

Now, this was probably the one thing that took most time to adapt with the new client, but now I would say I'm perfectly adjusted to the lack/minimal animations. That said, this was one of the biggest issues my girlfriend had when saw the new client, and while there was some time already since she had been playing frequently on MF, she ended up never returning to play again.


10. Better visualization of split piles, Archive/Crypt contents, Prince targets, ...

This is pretty important, having full information of everything that should be known is essential.


10. Option to hide the log

Also something that bothered me at first, but that I don't mind anymore. But I do think the game should be playable with a hidden log.


11. Android app (or just improved compatibility?)
12. iPhone app (or just improved compatibility?)


If available I would probably download on an Ipad, but I don't really need it. Might be great for expanding the playerbase.


13. Downloadable game logs

This is the single most important thing that I really miss. Logs were great for studying games and frequently more practical than loading a saved game. Allowing external sites to gather more statistics would be really cool and I feel like it would be good to non paying users to be able to have some form of accessing logs (of games played with expansions) without having to ask a paying user 



14. Improved moderation (dealing with chat abuse, slowplayers, ...)

I have almost never run into any trouble with this, but I find that having a report player button separate from the blacklist one, and a mute chat option would both be good.


15. Tutorial on how to play Dominion

Not sure if this is really necessary, maybe a link to the rules on RGG website would be enough.


16. Tutorial on how to play dominion online.

I think some way to explain some of the more hidden functions of the client like /undo would be great.




Now I'll make a short consideration that I find specially valid for items 8-12, is that I feel that gathering opinions here might create a really biased feedback, since the people over here have mostly been playing on the client for over one year, so that these might not be issues for them anymore, or they are ones who are unaffected by them, but I'm pretty sure that they are very big issues for a lot of people that might have not stuck around when the client changed and also for many possible newcomers.


And closing I will just make one more suggestion, which I know that probably won't be used by most of the playerbase, but I would really love to have, and well... If it isn't too hard to implement one can dream right? That would be an option to reset random seeds when loading an saved game. I often find myself wishing I could do this in situations where I want to see if an decision I made worked/didn't mostly due to luck issues or because it was an actual strong/weak play. Getting this information from analyzing game state is frequently very hard, and playing over a couple of times in the same scenario but with different random seeds would be great.

There were a few spectators in both games and in the first time it happened with me it was just after I had come back from a very quick connection failure from my end.

Another problem regarding my League match game against SamE yesterday, but just regarding when I tried loading it today.

Whenever I try to load game (#9659143) the game gets stuck in the loading screen (with the castle and rotating circle), reloading the dominion.games page seems to make the game load, but to a point that is not the actual endgame state of said game, but quite a bit earlier. (Loading at what appears to be the last decision point available)

Yesterday I was playing a League match against SamE and twice the game ended up freezing during my turn, I couldn't buy, play cards, or pass my turn. I tried changing Computer and Browser and the game continued in it's stuck state. Another League game of Aku Chi vs Mic Qsenoch was played around the same time and it seems like they found a work around involving asking for an undo. Unfortunately i did not think about doing that, but luckily both games were close enough to being over that there was really not much harm done.

Both endgame states are saved as of the moment the freezing occurred, just after buying Inheritance in the first one, and after King's Courting a Smithy in the second one, in the second game my opponent could see that the game was frozen because the log said I played Smithy but never got to draw the cards.

I took a screenshot, but there is a video of Aku Chi vs Mic Qsenoch match where the problem is clearly visible (and much better to visualize what happened). What happened to me is exactly alike what happened to Aku Chi in the following video at the 1:11:42 mark. And they mention in chat that it had already happened previously.

Yeah, it was funny that I was matched to the same person I was playing before, but not sure if it means much because there was actually a few hours between the last game I had played against him and the time that this happened.

Ok, I donĀ“t know if this should be here or in Connection bugs, but I just had a very weird one.

I had just started a game and it was somewhat slow, at turn 3 it got worse and I tried reloading the page, I got sent to the login screen it reconnected automatically like it always does, but when I got in the game, I was, instead, at the beggining of a new game against another player!

Both games showed up at Scavenger just fine, I checked constantly for the first one and it showed up pretty much five minutes after my initial disconnection like expected, but at that time I was already half way into the second game.
