Bug Reports / Why is everything so slow recently?
16 January 2024, 03:55:51 AM
It takes forever to log in to the game, images (that should be cached) take forever to load. Once I finally get in a game and the images finally load it seems fine, but sometimes it takes a few minutes and multiple refreshes just to get to the screen to search for a player. I feel like this has been going on for weeks now, maybe months. Why is this so bad?

Ah, totally makes sense, thanks to both of you!

General Discussion / Shouldn't Capitalism trigger Keep?
29 December 2019, 02:06:24 AM
Just played a game on the site with both Capitalism and Keep on the board, and it does not appear that I got any bonuses from owning cards that were turned in to Treasures with Capitalism. I did some searching for a rule on this and did not find one, but from the text it appears this should have worked. Anyone know the official ruling? Is this a bug or how it is supposed to work?

I received multiple complaints about their behaviour in the past.
It should take someone with basic admin access to the database all of 5 seconds to ban a user. You have received multiple complaints about this user but nothing was done, and now players like me have to continue to deal with their pathetic temper tantrums because no one can be bothered to ban them. I understand they will probably make another account, but they should not feel that there are no repercussions for their actions.

I understand that one feels powerless against slowplayers and wants retaliation, but the most power we give them by actually dealing with them. Resign and blacklist, and move on, and you had 5 min of a bad experience and not an hour.
I would argue that people aren't looking for retaliation, they are looking for justice. When someone blatantly breaks the rules and the response is "just ignore them", that is a very deflating feeling and not something I would guess most people want to put money behind.

I would assume the people that this bothers take their rating seriously because they are competitive or use it as a barometer to measure their own improvement, so when they are cheated it is a very frustrating experience. And when they pay for this service, and nothing is done to 1) fix this problem for them or 2) prevent this cheater from harming other people, then it just makes things that much worse.

I am sorry, but the solution to just resign and ignore them is not good enough, we the players deserve better.

General Discussion / Re: Lifetime Results?

Cool! I only see my last 1000 games, even if I put in a higher number. Any way around that?

General Discussion / Lifetime Results?

Is there a way to see your lifetime win/loss record? I have played a couple thousand games now, curious what my win percentage is.

1. An offline client, allowing you to play campaigns against bots
I would really enjoy this. I really like playing the online version against other players, but do not always have the time required to commit to a game, and sometimes dont have a good internet connection on my phone or tablet.

2. A bot with a setting for different play styles
That would be nice, but not a high priority IMO, since I doubt I would pick up on the nuances. Different difficulty levels would probably be useful.

3. A strong bot.
That would be great, I would like to get better and feel a strong bot could help me learn and knock out 'good' games faster.

4. Options for timed games
Sure, but this has rarely been a problem recently.

5. Options for undo settings
I think the current undo system works pretty well, I have rarely run in to any problems or unfair situations.

6. Online mini-tournaments; the option to easily create one for you & your friends.
For me personally, I would likely never use that. Coordinating that kind of time with multiple other people would be a struggle.

7. Option to invite specific players to your table
Not really useful for me, usually looking for quick, random games. If I want to play a specific person its usually pre-arraigned and the existing system works fine.

8. More translations (to what language?)
Not needed for me.

9. Better animations when cards are gained/bought/played/...
Not needed for me, but if it helps bring in new or more players, I can see the value in that.

10. Better visualization of split piles, Archive/Crypt contents, Prince targets, ...
Nice to have, but have learned how to use the existing system just fine.

11. Option to hide the log
Nah.

12. Android app (or just improved compatibility?)
No android device.

13. iPhone app (or just improved compatibility?)
Have iphone/ipad, and having an native app would be great, but I dont know how much I would use it (outside of offline play). I have tried to play on the web version, and it has been frustrating, so havent done it much.

14. Downloadable game logs
Not interested.

15. Improved moderation (dealing with chat abuse, slowplayers, ...)
Nice to have, but havent run in to many slowplayers in a while.

16. Tutorial on how to play Dominion
Not needed for me, but certainly see the value in bringing new people to the game.

17. Tutorial on how to play dominion online.
Same as above.

General Discussion / How do I block abusive players?
17 February 2017, 08:16:53 AM
A few times now I have run in to people that start to lose and play really slow on purpose, or people that are just jerks. I am fine leaving a game, but I keep running in to one of them. How can I block someone so I dont get matched up with them again? Because it really sucks to be matched up with them a few times in a row.

I'd be curious to hear from people who feel that a global chat is worthwhile.  I too am in the boat of not really caring/finding personal value in it, but that doesn't mean that it isn't valuable to other people.  Clearly Felendis feels that there is value there.  I have to admit with MF if I had a question or wanted to see what was going on I first turned to the global chat and if I didn't see anything there that was helpful then would turn to the forums.  Consider it immediate feedback vs delayed feedback I guess.
I think the value is just what you guessed. The value in a global chat is getting a response that is generally instant, though it lacks depth (and sometimes intelligence or the ability to spell). The forums are great for long, thought out discussions that can last for days or weeks.

I think the biggest value that the global chat would bring to a game like this is the instant help and feedback for a brand new player. People just getting in to Dominion or even just playing online for the first time are going to have some significant hurdles to overcome by trying to understand all that this platform offers, and if they dont really know how to articulate their issues right now, searching the forums for them will be difficult. They could try to cobble together a post that doesnt just create more follow up questions, after they go through the whole forum registration process. Thats assuming they care enough about the game to come back and see if they got an answer. The friction on that interaction is SUPER high, and most people just wont do it.The people here posting on the forums are not who global chat is for, but I would assume the percentage of the userbase of people who have no idea the forums exist is pretty high, and for this game to grow, that will always be high as new people come in.

The possibility of finding new players (via the terrific 'Good Game'-Button) has given me some awesome Dominion matches last week, which I hadn't had in MF since ages.
Yeah, I really love the ability to find a 'Good' match. I find that using that matches me with other players with the new sets, people that are a little more social, and people that generally know how to play.

To be honest, all this social stuff of getting together with other players in the lobby, maintaining your friend's list or pathfinding appropriate games still needs some technical improvements and even more some design attraction, but its pure existence makes using the Shuffle IT platform for Dominion freaks so much more valuable than the former ones.
I was thinking about this stuff right now, because I feel that the social aspects of the game just arent there yet. There are small things that need to get fixed, like when you are writing something in the chat box and your turn comes up, the focus returns to the board and get cut off mid sentence.

But the bigger thing to me is lack of real-time community building, in the form of a lobby chat. Not only is it great to ask questions and talk strategy, but it would be great to have a way to easily recruit a few people for a multiplayer game.

Been playing for about a week now, I still have some concerns, but the game runs really well and the implementation is pretty solid on a PC once you get used to the UI/UX. I have met a few nice, fun players the last few days, and I see myself continuing to play this for a while.

Looking forward to the improvements coming down the pipeline, to the playerbase growing, and hopefully to more people buying more sets so I can see a little more variety in my games ;)

Good job team, best of luck, you have my support!
