General Discussion / Re: Journey Token
21 February 2017, 07:15:13 PM
There is a potential problem with a theoretical future card that observes, but does not alter, journey token state, and does different things depending on those states.  It seems that not every journey token card needs to be of the form "flip it, if up do this".  The journey token state information may be deductible at any point except during the resolution of cards that change it (not sure if this colored display is changing with the token or not), but displaying the state itself would be more direct.

It says right on the card "flip it over, then check".  That is what I'm used to.  It starts face up, and when you first play a Journey token card, it flips face down.  The client should implement what the card says, not some sort of weird player intuition.

Information being displayed in the GUI is not the same as implementation.  You can argue that displaying "result after playing card" (or however you want to interpret it) is counterintuitive, but that doesn't mean it's implemented incorrectly.

"give it a chance" and "you'll get used to it" are not acceptable things to tell people.

Yes, they are.

If there's sufficient interest we can add a user preference that lets you flip the journey token flip behaviour.

Personally, I think

Token State: Up/Down

text is optimal.

I never once knew the state of my journey token from physical inspection while playing Making Fun.

If there is a graphic, mouseover could tell you the token's state in terms of the card descriptions. (I.e., with "Current State: Up/Down")

Hmm.. doesn't Butcher need to be fixed so that you have the choice to empty Coin Tokens?

Edit: I guess I probably should have read that thread.

To reemphasize, there is no such thing as "Play as Action" and "Play as Treasure".  People keep suggesting this, and it is fundamentally incorrect. Crown is an Action and a Treasure; you don't choose which you play it as; it is always both, so it is always played as both.  It depends only on what phase you play it in.  (Consider playing Crown during Black Market resolution.)

I agree.

I've had a hard time figuring out how it's deciding to autoplay treasures.  I had originally thought it was using some logic based on other Treasure/Silver, like witholding the maximal amount that you can Trash, playing the rest, then playing Silver.  I'm not certain about it, though.

Well, sure, you're welcome to think that.  I just think you're off base.

I hope you're right, I really do.

So this means what I said wasn't an unfair jab, it's just something you disagree with. Awesome.

I still think it's unfair, but that's where the disagreement lies.

Well, I disagree about the Making Fun release certainly.

And yeah, it will never be fully 'complete' as there will always be new features to implement, bug fixes, etc.  But in specific terms of getting Inheritance, Stash, naming cards functionality all working, it sounded like you were saying you don't think they're ever going to do that, and I don't see the basis for such a statement.

When are we going to have all of the cards implemented? This includes fixing all of the cards that require you to name a card since they're unplayable at this point, and we need a way to view the Journey Token at any time.

The software was released almost three weeks ago and at a bare minimum it should have been completely implemented by that point: this isn't even the top priority.

New releases are getting less frequent and this doesn't appear to be on anyone's radar. I kind of doubt this is ever going to be finished at this point.

To be fair, you criticize other's uses of unhelpful phrases while saying things like this.  It's a bit of an unfair jab.  (I'm assuming here that 'it' means the product itself, or at least full implementation of cards.)

I definitely get wanting time estimates, though.  And I also get not wanting to do them.  I have to provide development estimates in my job as well, and hate doing that (mostly because I feel I can't make them accurate).

It also occurred to me that Arena is another special case where you need to have the current phase well-defined when you click Crown.

(Though, you'd generally want to click it (to either Play or Discard) in your Buy Phase with a hand of Crown, Copper x4 and not your Action Phase.)

Ok, so after the discussion I would like this:

If I click Crown with no other action card in hand Crown won't be played, but two buttons apper "Action phase", "Buy phase" and other treasures became clickable.
At this point the card is not yet played, so rules are ok.
Clicking on "Action phase" would play Crown as action. "Buy phase" would move you to buy phase and play Crown as treasure.
Click on a other treasure card would be shortcut for "Buy Phase" + clicking on that treasure card.

I think this is both accurate according to the rules and also implements Adam's idea without the need for considering any edge cases.

To be pedantic, there is no 'as action' or 'as treasure'; it's just stay in your Action Phase and play it, or move to Buy Phase and play it.

But yes.

Feature Requests / Play Treasures for Black Market
12 January 2017, 12:08:16 AM
For Black Market, I think there should be a 'Autoplay Treasures' button that behaves as the normal Buy phase one does.  It's also misclick-prone that the 'Don't Buy' button appears in the same place where 'Autoplay Treasures' is during buy phase, as my reflex is to click there to play treasures.

Is there any reason we wouldn't want to have it?

Is it possible you had Debt that couldn't be paid off, therefore no option to Buy anything in your Buy phase?
