And I legitimately feel like I've already answered that question.  I said I don't like it.  I also said it's not going to make me rage quit the game.  I suggested other alternatives that I personally find more appropriate.  And I acknowledged that my opinion doesn't seem to be the popular one around these parts.  If I had the choice to relegate card bans to unrated (read: fun) games, I would.  But that isn't my call and I was mostly just expressing some support for the OP because I feel similarly.

Edit: Additional thoughts.

I get it.  I have some cards I despise (literally anything that will bog a game down into a slog involving curses or ruins, basically all attacks in general), but I am also strongly oriented toward completionism and principle.  To me, it's important that rankings be based on the complete game.  Not important enough to quit playing over this, but important enough that I want to be clear I dislike it in case others feel the same and/or if the game mods might eventually take stuff like that into consideration.

General Discussion / Re: Dominion mandatory etiquette?

Sounds like just a jerk.  As you report it, it doesn't sound like you did anything untoward.

It's a matter of both, and in rankings, skill should take precedence.  Fun can happen very easily in non-ranked games, and that's what I thought those were always for.

No this isn't enough to make me quit.  I just think a lot of people were TBH being really gross about pet cards.  I have cards I really hate too, usually because I lose when an opponent knows how to use them and I don't.  I place more value here on being able to interact and strategize around the game in full.

As I said before, pet peeve folks have won the day here.  I'm not going to take up arms to get it changed, but I do dislike it.  Justifications from pet peevers aren't going to make me like it any more.
Looking at the banned lists, I think people ban/dislike cards due to "fun" reasons rather than "skill" reasons, so there is that. Also, I haven't run any maths, but the effect on the leaderboard is probably negligible - if you are really bad at one card, you probably aren't very good with the rest either, and anyway that card is affecting at most one game out of 30 or so.

Do you feel personally damaged by this change? How?

Ah, yes.  I can't dislike or express an opinion about a change without being interrogated about how I'm "personally damaged" by this thing I dislike.  I've already explained why I don't like it.  Is there something you're having trouble understanding about that or?

I also dislike the ability for players to ban cards in automatch, but it seems I'm either in a minority or a relatively quiet majority, so the folks who have pet peeves win the day here.

Personally, I think that skill at the game requires knowledge of all the cards, especially if you're going to be playing in ranked games.  If you want to resign turn 1 because you can't deal with a particular card, that's your prerogative and you can take the rank hit (and I can block you).

I think banned lists are much better off in folks creating their own tables.

Best of all worlds might be for those of us who want the full game to have the option to not auto-match to folks who have anything banned.  They can do their thing and I can do mine with other folks who want to play the whole game.

Another potential idea is a courtesy rating system perhaps?  It would be nice to have info pop up about your opponent where you can see "5 people have reported this account as abusive, would you like to mute?" before a game even starts.  Gives us time to decide if we actually want to play with that person or just mute them out of the gate.

And I get having a longer slow-playing limit at four minutes because life happens, but maybe limit that 4-minute timer to 2-3 uses?  If someone really needs 4 minutes more than that they shouldn't be playing the game or should be talking to their opponent and explaining what's up/making sure they're okay with it.

Basic human decency shouldn't be that hard.  I blacklist when I can, but I do think it is the job of the admins to minimize abuse, bullying, and hostility as much as possible.  I know IP banning is at least possible on other sites.  I liked the above idea about cell phone verification.

Or maybe.... instead of banning, when the really nasty players get enough complaints, have a special separate auto-match system just for them, and they can all play with each other without realizing they don't have access to the general player pool anymore.  I think they all deserve each other.

Feature Requests / Re: Block/report
12 June 2019, 10:10:57 PM
1) I wholeheartedly agree with adding a reporting feature, especially when it comes to folks intentionally being obnoxious or abusive.  There's no reason to let that go on.

2) A mute button on the chat would be nice too.  I could have used it when I didn't want to resign the game with someone who was being abusive without having to keep seeing them send message after message until the game was over and they left the table.

3) Differentiating between blocks for preference vs blocks for abusive behavior is a fantastic idea.

4) It wouldn't be that hard to look at the game logs and see if someone was abusing the reporting feature.  It can just be another indication to the admin to take a closer look at what happened if they get an abuse report.

Just coming in to add my support for this idea as an option.  Being able to click "fast play" and limit the amount of time people can spend making decisions would be super useful for me as well if I want to get a quick game in or don't have the patience to play with a "thinker."

Not that that isn't a valid gaming strategy, as said above, but sometimes it'd be nice to be matched with folks who have a compatible play style.

I'm starting to notice some of this behavior too.  Multiple players over the last few days request to blacklist a card.  Usually they just resign and move on when I deny that request, but I had one player get abusive with me last night.  They requested I not play with Rebuild, and resigned before I even had a chance to reply under the assumption I'd just be cool with a re-roll like they said they wanted if I wouldn't agree not to use the card.  I left the table because I'm a pretty firm believer in learning to play with all the cards and that if special rules are needed then those players can play non-rated games.

I played another game with a different opponent via automatch then got paired with this player a second time via automatch and decided to go ahead and play it out.  They started questioning me why I left and I said "I am not into 'blacklisting' cards."  They then proceeded to send 2 or 3 messages with no response from me justifying why they didn't want to play with that card.  I said "I have cards I hate too, but I play what I'm dealt," and I think near that point I also said I wasn't feeling like arguing about it.  They then started accusing me of being mad over a game, being unable to play it for fun, and being different from "all the other players" that apparently let them do this a lot.

I told this player they were being pushy with me, but they continued to keep messaging me through the end of the game.  I told them I would blacklist them and I have, but it would be really nice to have some sort of reporting function so that we can alert the admin to users who are asking for special accommodations over pet cards they hate.  I don't mind the asking so much, but being badgered over refusing is unacceptable.  Seems like the OP has also been punished for simply saying no and it would be nice to avoid those kinds of characters and personalities on this game platform if possible.

The user in question for me was Durgle, in case the OP wants to pre-block that user too.

1. An offline client, allowing you to play campaigns against bots

Yes please.  I tend to stick to bot playing most of the time and being able to play offline is something I miss having.  I would request stronger/better bots for this though.

2. A bot with a setting for different play styles

I'm not really sure what is meant by this, but it sounds interesting at least.  Different difficulty settings for beginners would be nice.

3. A strong bot.

YES.  Because I like to play very quickly and because I sometimes need to step away in the middle of a game for something, bots are ideal for me and improving those improves my quality of experience greatly.

4. Options for timed games

I can see this causing problems, to be honest.  Some cards and mechanics naturally slow games down (Dark Ages) and some speed it way up (Prosperity).  Any average would not do justice to the possible extremes.

5. Options for undo settings

Something other than what already exists?  It is nice to have the ability to fix misclicks.  Additional options might not be bad, but I'm having trouble thinking of what that would look like.

6. Online mini-tournaments; the option to easily create one for you & your friends.

This sounds like a lot of fun and I would totally try to get this going among my friend network.

7. Option to invite specific players to your table

Yes. To be honest I've always been really confused why this isn't already an option.  This especially helps with newer players trying to get used to the UI.

8. More translations (to what language?)

Not needed for me, but I always support increased accessibility for others.

9. Better animations when cards are gained/bought/played/...

I really don't care about animations and to be honest find them annoying.  Less is more here IMO.

10. Better visualization of split piles, Archive/Crypt contents, Prince targets, ...

This would be very helpful.  Being able to see more of the board at a glance is something I really want.

10. Option to hide the log

I don't need this, but I also don't see any harm in it.  I definitely wouldn't prioritize it over many of these other potential ideas.

11. Android app (or just improved compatibility?)

I desperately want an Android App for this.  I would play more frequently on my phone if this was available and actually playable (difficult I know because of how big some of these board setups are getting).

12. iPhone app (or just improved compatibility?)

I don't have an iPhone, but I have friends who do, so I support them having more options to play.

13. Downloadable game logs

I feel pretty meh about this.  I likely wouldn't use it at all and don't see a good reason to prioritize it, although if others want it I don't see harm in getting around to it eventually.

14. Improved moderation (dealing with chat abuse, slowplayers, ...)

I am strongly in favor of this.  Particularly, it would be nice to have an easy reporting system that we can then use to filter users.  Like I could select an option to never be paired with someone who has had more than two unique complaints about slowplaying in the last month since that is a HUGE nuisance for me.  Strong moderation is usually a key to a strong community.  I haven't encountered much of it, but it should be nipped in the bud if it's starting to happen.

15. Tutorial on how to play Dominion

Yes.  This is something that would be really helpful as I try to introduce friends to the game.

16. Tutorial on how to play dominion online.

Same as for 15.  This game is not super intuitive and takes some training.  For someone who isn't as willing to engage in trial and error as myself, I can imagine that the UI can be really frustrating.

I'll keep it in mind about the "Shame and Blame," but I'm fairly new to the forums and there's no intuitive way to "Report" a player through the actual game.  I'm glad that someone who is regularly blacklisted will be investigated, that's good to know.  However, as someone who has done moderation for various things before, it's good to have as much detail as possible, especially if there is record-keeping.  I'll try to keep it to private messages from now on with actual user names.

Ended up resigning so I could play some more.  This is not a great bug to allow to persist when there are predatory users that will take advantage of it.

Edit:  User was Auralay.  I've blacklisted them, but if there's any kind of accountability system, it would be nice to have that logged.

I also just had someone disconnect right before I was going to win, and it's been about a half an hour now and I don't want to resign and it hasn't asked if I want to make them resign yet.  #6212851 on frankfurt

This is pretty frustrating.
