That was it.  I had to tick rated game to get a match.  I suppose I had to untick it to play the previews last week.

Thank you.

Interface Issues / Matching isn't working this morning
01 October 2018, 02:38:09 PM
It looks like matching has stopped working, probably due to some setting related to the previews which are no longer available.  At the moment 31 people are searching, which is unusually high for this time of day, and I haven't gotten a match in 10 minutes.

How about simplifying it even further?  There must be a few cards that are widely disliked.  Donald is probably in the best position to determine which ones - have him pick 3 of them.  Then in the matching screen add a criteria of "play with banned cards" so that people who really want to play with them will get matched with others that want them also, and no one else will have to see them again.

I doubt this would affect ratings because we would all have the same choice to make: a simple yes or no to a fixed set of cards.

I suggest banning Possession and Rebuild.  Those are the only two I really dislike, but I'd be happy with the above proposal whether it banned those cards or not.

Why do this when people could just select the ones they don't like? The mechanism is already partway there with Familiar Cards. It seems simpler and more player-friendly. I don't think anyone could "game" this feature in any meaningful way.

I thought the primary argument against allowing people to ban cards was that the rankings would lose some of their accuracy.  By only allowing a single, common set of cards to be banned you greatly reduce that possibility.  If it turns out that there is a significant advantage to playing with the banned cards, or without them, then we'll all know it and those that care can play with the better option.

On the other hand, maybe choosing which cards to ban will become a meta-strategy that deserves to be part of the ranking system.

I can join games, but then it gets stuck on the spinner before the board loads.

On my tablet pressing and holding on the card (a long click) is the same as right-click on a mouse.  It's awkward, but it works.

General Discussion / Re: Quick Game versus Good Game

A good game will match you with someone near your rating.  A quick game will match you with anyone except those trying to get a good game match.  They may be almost the same right now (I'm not sure how ratings are being implemented at the moment), but eventually that's how it will work.

Interface Issues / Re: VP counter jumping around

That was probably due to a landmark.  Scores can change dramatically on a single turn.  For example, if Fountain is in the kingdom you will gain 15 points when you gain your 10th copper, and then you'll lose them again if you trash a copper when you have only 10.

You can change that in Options.  The default is that the kingdom may include a maximum of 2 unfamiliar cards.  In the Options section you can set it to 0 to prevent any unfamiliar cards from appearing.

General Discussion / Re: Compose kingdoms?

You can compose a kingdom for a specific table.

New Table -> Create Table -> Select Kingdom Cards

There is also an Advanced Options button on that page that controls the number of landmarks and events and other things.

I believe you can then play with that set as long as you are using the same table, but I don't know if there is a way to save it for future use or not.

There was a lot of playtesting done by experienced Dominion players, and I believe everything you listed has already been pointed out by them.  The developers just ran out of time to get everything fixed before the release date.  I think you will see the interface improve pretty quickly over the next couple of weeks.

I think the people who played on Isotropic will be pleased with how well the site functions technically and will have no trouble at all, but those that played only on other sites will be a bit confused with the current interface.  On MF everything is so clearly laid out and all actions are visible - the pros don't need that but the rest of us do.  I currently enjoy playing at MF more than on the beta (although I do like using the newest expansion on the beta).

I do believe that the developers have done the most important work first and I'm confident that they will be able to adjust the UI as needed until most everyone is happy.  It's just too bad they don't have a few more weeks to perfect it before the launch.
