Other Bugs / Flashing cards on trash/discard actions
19 November 2017, 07:19:38 PM
I'm shocked that I didn't see a thread for this.

Whenever I select a card to trash or discard, it will flash red or yellow several times before highlighting. This can last anywhere from one to over ten seconds.

What is happening?

Bump. It's been almost a month now, and this still hasn't come to Stef's attention.

Feature Requests / Autoplay Treasures misclicks
13 June 2017, 12:23:14 AM
Hi. I posted about this months ago but it hasn't been fixed, and it's a huge problem.

Back when Dominion was hosted by Goko and Making Fun, there were countless complaints about how the End Actions/End Turn buttons were in places where it was very easy to click them by accident. Although those buttons aren't an issue anymore, the Autoplay Treasures button has exactly the same placement problem on this client. I've noticed it two places:

Coin tokens: The Autoplay Treasures button moves down, displaced by the Play X Coin Tokens button, which I have accidentally clicked many times.
Black Market: Instead of an Autoplay Treasures button, the Black Market menu displays a No Treasures or Don't Buy button in exactly the same place.

Please fix this, and do it soon. There should be no excuse for Goko-level button misplacement.

General Discussion / Re: Releases

Hate to say it, but the no end screen bug is still happening for me. I had to refresh quite a few times last night because I didn't get the end screen.

AI bugs / Trashed Provinces with Sauna
06 February 2017, 10:11:04 AM
QuoteL plays a Sauna.
L draws a card.
L plays a Sauna.
L draws a card.
L plays an Apothecary.
L shuffles their deck.
L draws a card.
L reveals a Gold, a Province, an Apothecary and a Sauna.
L topdecks a Gold, a Province, an Apothecary and a Sauna.
L plays an Apothecary.
L draws a card.
L reveals a Silver, a Gold, an Apothecary and a Sauna.
L topdecks a Silver, a Gold, an Apothecary and a Sauna.
L plays 3 Silvers.
L trashes 2 Provinces.
L buys and gains a Duchy.
L draws 5 cards.

Yes I know this probably counts under "trashing valuable cards" - I think the AI is mistaking the optional trashing on Sauna for obligatory.

General Discussion / Weird new idea for streamers?
28 January 2017, 09:12:23 AM
I remember when Goko was still the main platform and all the biggest competitive streamed games were set up very complexly on TeamViewer so that all the viewers could see both hands. Now that there's spectator mode, that's become unnecessary - and I just thought of a way to take it a step further for ALL streams.

  • Create a second account (I'd probably call mine ElaStreamWatcher or something)
  • Open two windows of different browsers, one with each account*
  • Set up a stream that only sees the second account's window
  • Enable spectators and start a game on your main account
  • Enter the game with your second account as a spectator

(*This is the only part I'm unsure about - I don't know if you can be logged into two different accounts on the same IP address regardless of browser.)

So this way, all of your viewers can see BOTH players' hands, but you can only see your own. You'd have to make sure your opponent knows you're not cheating - and by the way, don't cheat with this! - but if they trust you then you're good to go. The only thing I can think of that would mess it up is if the stream chat gave the opponent's hand away, but that can be solved by not reading the chat or something.

Feature Requests / Re: Opt out of leaderboard

Philip has said that this feature is planned: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=15260.msg614299#msg614299

there'll likely be an option to opt out of the leaderboard (neither you nor anyone else can see your rank) and have your rating only be used by the system for match making purposes. Things like achievements could then deliver a sense of accomplishment to those who don't like the ranking.

Besides, I think Dominion itself offers enough opportunities to get your accomplishment fix: winning a game in an unexpected way, building a marvelously roaring engine, finally pulling off that elusive combo, you name it. Personally, I loved the game long before I got anywhere close to the top or even felt like I was moving forwards, and I would not have gotten there had I not loved it so much.

Alright good. I don't go to f.ds all that much anymore, so thanks for letting me know.

Feature Requests / Opt out of leaderboard
20 January 2017, 09:33:24 PM
I know I asked this before, and there's at least one leaderboard-related thread around here somewhere, but I wanted to make this a separate thread for more visibility.

When you get the leaderboard/ratings feature done, I'd like an option to opt out of it. I would still technically have a rating for automatch purposes, but I wouldn't be able to see it and neither would my opponents. And I wouldn't show up on the leaderboard at all.

The reason for this is that ratings and rankings make some people (including me) nervous, and having to constantly check my rating on Goko/MF made games a lot less fun. I'd love for more poeple to be able to play for fun alone without having to worry about rankings, but still have the competitive aspect for those who want it, and not have to separate the two groups.

There's one thing that I don't see anybody's brought up in this thread, and I think it's relevant, so I'll say it here.

It seems like S&S designed a lot of this interface with Isotropic in mind. I know a lot of hardcore players "grew up" (for lack of a better term) playing Dominion on Iso, so it would feel more familiar to them. But the thing about Iso is that it's entirely text-based. There's no play area, no reveal box, hardly any visual representation of anything. Even the graphic mode operated only through the game log. And it's understandable why S&S liked that from a technical perspective - text-based stuff is easier to make than graphic stuff.

But Dominion is still a card game, not a word game. What Goko/MF brought to the game when they took over is the feeling that you're actually playing with cards, rather than generating lines of text. People who started on Goko (including me) learned to keep track of games by seeing them happen, not by reading about them, which is what would happen in a real life card game. Yes there's still a log, and it helps to have the log visible just in case you miss something, but unless there are tricky, complex, super-fine-tuned combo moves involved, you can usually understand exactly what's going on without even looking at the log. And of course there were complaints about the Goko/MF interface, but they were mostly about things like bugs and misclicks, which makes sense given the sheer complexity of Dominion mechanics.

Now there's Shuffle iT, which is in the awkward place of trying to combine Goko's dynamic with Iso's functionality. And they're just not getting there. They look like they want to keep the card game feel, but it's compromised by heavy dependence on the log. I understand that some buttons, boxes, and other features haven't been placed yet, but there are a few features that look fully implemented (some reveal areas, for example) and yet are nearly impossible to interpret without reading the log's description. If S&S take anything from this post and this thread, it should be that they need to make this an interface where the game log isn't vital to understanding what's going on. The text-based Iso era is over. This is still a card game.

Feature Requests / Black Market MISCLICK PREVENTION!
30 December 2016, 08:31:26 PM
The "no treasures" button after playing Black Market is EXACTLY where the "autoplay treasures" button is for the buy phase. I like most of your features, but this is a MF-level misclick invitation. Please move it.

Pretty proud of this move - turning a 5/2 on a board with no 5s into a 4/3/4 with turn 2 trashing AND attacking.

QuoteTurn 1 - Elanchana
E plays 5 Coppers.
E buys a Summon.
E gains a Transmogrify.
E sets a Transmogrify aside.
E draws 2 Coppers and 3 Estates.

Turn 1 - Lord Rattington
L plays 4 Coppers.
L buys and gains a Swindler.
L draws 3 Coppers and 2 Estates.

Turn 2 - Elanchana
E starts her turn.
E summons a Transmogrify.
E plays a Transmogrify.
E puts a Transmogrify on her Tavern mat.
E calls a Transmogrify.
E trashes an Estate.
E gains a Swindler.

E plays a Swindler.
L shuffles his deck.
L trashes a Copper.
L gains a Curse.
E plays 2 Coppers.
E buys and gains a Tournament.
E shuffles her deck.
E draws 3 Coppers, an Estate and a Tournament.

(I took the liberty of changing the "his" to "her" for my moves - is that going to be fixed for already-registered users anytime soon?)

Looks like someone missed the memo that buying Jack on a Bandit Fort board might not be such a good idea.

5) I also think it is confusing that you can buy something without putting your money in play, (I know it automatically puts money in play, but that isn't obvious to a new person). This is a very nice feature to me, but when playing with newer players they often don't understand the importance of putting money "in play." I worry this will increase this misunderstanding.

Yeah, it's nice to have the shortcut, but that's going to be hell for new players. Maybe make it an optional feature, along with autoplay and stuff? Like "Buy cards to play treasures: on/off"
