Feature Requests / View end screen but not be at table
03 October 2017, 10:52:26 PM
So, at the end of the game, I like to spend a few minutes on the end screen, looking at deck composition and thinking about the game.  The problem is, I don't plan on playing again, and if my opponent clicks Ready, I feel that it is rude to make them wait without a response until I'm ready to leave the table or they get frustrated and leave themselves.  I could send a chat message that I don't plan to play another game, but that takes time and also feels a bit rude.

What I'd like is for there to be a way to leave the table but stay on the table, so that it is clear to my opponent that I am not going to play again.

I know that it's not about slow-rolling.  However, chess is not a great analogy.  On your turn in chess, you move one piece.  That it.  In Dominion, on your turn, you may just lay down 3 copper and buy a silver, or you may have a bunch of actions that have to be played in a careful order on order to work the right way, and sometimes you have to stop and consider things like what is left in your draw pile, your opponent's deck/probably hand composition, triggering the reshuffle, counting points or other decision points.  Those boards just take longer to play, and a clock is not, IMHO, a solution.

I was watching Qvist's Championship tournament match yesterday and he had build an engine that simply took a long time to play out the cards, even though he wasn't really taking much time between each card play.  His opponent quit and conceded the match in frustration because the game was "too slow".  I don't think your proposal would help that at all since either you are adding enough time with each action that the turn still takes a long time, or Qvist is forced to lose a game he is winning simply because he cannot move the mouse fast enough.

Sorry, but this just isn't worth doing as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, but this is just a bad idea.  Period.

The game takes time.  Sometimes longer than others.  If the game is not going as fast as you want it, that's your problem, not a call for timed games.  The only real problem is people deliberately slow-rolling, which is playing as slowly as possible for the sake of taking up time.  Not to be confused with taking time to think and plan your play.

The site has ways to deal with slow-rolling.  As long as that isn't happening, players have a right to take time to think, and if the opponent doesn't like the pace of the game, they can resign.

I would personally never play with a clock of any form.  If I get slow-rolled (it has never happened to me, knock on wood) I will resign and report the offender.  If my opponent takes time to think, I will be patient.  IF my opponent complains about my pace, I will ignore him.

Really, this topic had been beaten to death.  Do we really need to go there again?

Feature Requests / Re: Request: Copper subscription

But the utility of a copper subscription is limited.  Basically, it only works in limiting the card selection when you get matched with someone with a copper or no subscription.  Even players who get the silver subscription have the problem of getting matched against a gold subscription and getting lots of unfamiliar cards.

Really, if you want to learn new cards without the pressure of a game against a live opponent, the quickest way is to play bots.  Creating a table and using the familiar cards setting is difficult as automatch for full random ranked games accounts for the great majority of the community here.

Long-term the campaign will address this, although a decent AI is needed there.  For now, the best way I can think to learn new cards is to play bots.  It's not great, but at least you can see what the cards do without any time pressure as you read them and figure them out.

Some of these were already posted in February, but I've updated the list.

*Automatic copper play when Grand Market is available is annoying. I really liked that the old version didn't autoplay them, but that you could manually play them if you wanted to.

*Being able to select all actions with Inn would save a lot of time.

Second these.

You also need the Potion subscription, which gets you only Alchemy...

This is reasonable to me.  +1

This has probably been suggested before, but I feel like possession should have errata:

1. Make it an attack.

You cannot give Possession the attack type because it does not affect all other players.

There is a distinct difference between playing slow, where a player takes time to think, and slow-rolling, which is slowness for the sake of trying to anger the opponent or force him to quit.  The latter is unacceptable, the former is not.

I often take time to think out a move, and occasionally get a play faster request.  I generally just ignore it.  If they want to resign and blacklist me, that's on them and I won't worry about it.

I'm also not concerned about being banned.  The mods are smart enough to distinguish between taking time to think and trolling.

When there is a long pause in the other persons play, I will occasionally ask "you there?"

So don't let these people bother you and certainly don't let them rush you.

However, if another soldier is played, you do not discard from 3 to 2

Remember, 500 card expansion means 500 rectangular pieces of cardshock in the box, not 500 unique things to program.  there are 33 new kingdom cards, boons, hexes and other cards given by kingdom cards, so maybe 40 or so things to program (just my estimate).

Actually, people have won against live opponents by much larger margins.

Just resign and blacklist him (or someone like him) in the future.  the ratings hit is not that bad and gets wiped away if he gets banned for abusive behavior.  Anyway, your rating will recover soon enough.

I was assuming that the OP meant that after you chose to leave the end game screen, you go back to auto match.

I like to stay on the end screen for a bit to look at results, chat, etc, but when I'm ready to leave I want to go to auto match.

If you started the game from the create table tab, you should go back there when you leave the end game screen, and when you start from auto match, you should go back to auto match.

+1 for going to matching instead of new tables, provided that the game started from auto match.
