Game Log Issues / Re: Shuffling
14 January 2017, 07:15:38 PM
Thanks. Found the rules. Even so, IRL continuing my example where the deck had 2 cards left at the end of a turn, after putting the shuffled discard pile beneath it then drawing 5 cards you would still be able to know what those 2 cards are whereas as the log currently functions, grouping like cards together and all, you cannot.

Game Log Issues / Shuffling
14 January 2017, 06:11:54 PM
IRL when you have, say, 2 cards in your deck at the end of your turn, you'd (normally) be able to pick up and see those 2 cards before you shuffle and draw 3 more. The current log doesn't show this (although I believe MF did, right?), it just shows "x shuffles their deck" then "x draws ...(5 cards)". While not a huge deal, the way that mimics play IRL (and thus is more technically correct, right?) can be helpful for deck tracking (like, "I'd better count my treasures this time through the deck to see how I can increase my Palace points"). This may become a moot point once better animations are implemented -- although I guess the animations could make the same mistake of just throwing out 5 cards instead of separating those before and after the shuffle. Just wondering if this was/is being considered.

Quote from: josh bornstein on 14 January 2017, 02:05:04 AMHaving said that; I was unable to ever view the BM pile at the old site, and it didn't ruin the games for me.  But I always thought that the inability to view was a software bug, and not the intended result.  I'll be interested in hearing feedback from more-experienced players--do they see this as a good or a bad decision?
You're supposed to know what collection of cards was chosen to be shuffled into the Black Market deck, NOT the order of how the shuffle came out. Actually at MF you could see what cards were chosen for the BM deck by looking at the top of the log, where they were listed. Maybe Si will do this someday, but I'm guessing it's nowhere near the top of the priority list.

How to Play / Re: Tables
11 January 2017, 10:04:41 PM
More issues with the current setup are timing and table creation. Twice I've created a table wanting to play against 2 bots with a kingdom taken from sets I'm unfamiliar with IRL (esp. Empires) to help me learn the cards when weird things have happened. Once I clicked ready, then I found myself in a base game with one bot and one human opponent who must've joined and clicked ready at the last second so my screen never showed anyone joining the table. I didn't uncheck respect familiar cards when I created the kingdom as I didn't think it would be an issue. Another time after clicking Create Table but before I got to limiting the sets to play with 2 people joined my table and clicked Ready. I was listed as host so I thought I'd be up for a game with all cards and clicked Ready to start the game. The game started with me, 1 player and a bot even though the log clearly showed both players as having joined the table before it said "joining game #...". The excluded player then left the table. I ended up in a base game with 1 player and a bot -- again the not unchecking respect familiar cards is what got me. The entire way the familiar cards idea works still needs fixing -- way too many posts about people getting into unwanted base games. I'm sure Si is aware of this and will get to it in time. Hopefully a more coherent way of table setup (like having rows of Quick Match/Good Match/Bot Match buttons for at least 2 & 3 player games (or more) -- as I have posted about elsewhere) would help solve the timing issues.

Support / Re: getting 80% base set cards
10 January 2017, 10:05:05 PM
2 questions: I just started a New Table planning to play 2 bots from a chosen set of expansions (I have all, but have been playing lots of matches focused on Empires and Adventures and using 4 Events/Landmarks to help me learn the cards). I have all cards marked as familiar. Before I could finish choosing my Kingdom Cards someone joined the table and clicked Ready, then another person did the same. Thinking that since I was listed as the host I'd get a game with all cards I went ahead and clicked Ready starting the game. The last player to join didn't appear (Lord Rat did), so after a couple turns that player left. Log excerpt:
fiordos joined the table.
tagesvater126 joined the table.
Joining game #237233 on oregon.
tagesvater126 left the table.
fiordos left the table. (after the game ended - my add)

1. Why this timing issue and how do I prevent it in the future?
2. Why did I end up in an all base set game?

Here's an idea I'll throw out: until how exactly to implement familiar cards is worked out, why not flip it and default to all cards being familiar? In fact, why not flip the term "familiar cards" to "unfamiliar cards" entirely, and let those who want to restrict their card exposure choose to do so without hindering so many other games?

Feature Requests / Re: 3 Player Matching

I have no stats, but I think the vast majority of games are/were 2 player. These people used the default MF automatch system to find their games. Therefore, the players that were left over would use the chat to find people who wanted to play a multiplayer game. So it makes sense that the chat would be biased toward multiplayer games while the overall number of games would be biased toward 2 player.
Good explanation, thanks.

Feature Requests / 3 Player Matching
10 January 2017, 06:59:52 AM
One feature that I would love to see implemented is 3 (or more) player matching. Right now Quick Match, Good Match and Bot Match all assume a 2 player game. In the MF global chat window it sure seemed like the requests for people to join a 3 player game outnumbered those for a 2 player game by a huge margin. Both IRL and OL I've personally found the 3 (or even 4) player game more interesting than the 2 player game. (I'd be fascinated to see a poll of the community on how others feel about this.) It would be awesome if a 2nd row of buttons could be added so that there would be one row for 2 player Quick Match, Good Match, and Bot Match, then a row beneath it for 3 player Quick Match, Good Match, and Bot Match.

Feature Requests / Re: Undo choice
10 January 2017, 06:35:57 AM
I love the undo feature too! The only thing still slightly buggy about it is when you end your turn mistakenly and the bots charge on ahead -- I've seen other posts about incidences of undo hanging in this situation and it just happened to me, hanging on "Waiting for Lord Rattington". But I'm guessing it's much harder technically to undo across turns than it is within a turn. Still, great feature.

AI bugs / Re: Known Bot Issues

One more clearly stupid play is bot seems to always discard an action with Envoy if it can even when Envoy uses up the last action so action cards are dead cards.

Making only Empires familiar worked for me on a "New Table" meeting Lord Rat.
(Un)checking sets doesn't seem to have any effect (with or without limitations of familiar cards).
This illustrates what continues to be my main ongoing criticism of Si, the total ignorance and denial of the importance, efficiency and efficacy of GOOD DOCUMENTATION! They continue to just let users stumble around in the dark wasting time having bad play experiences unnecessarily because they won't give us simple documentation on how things work. Sorry Si, I know you're all working really hard and I appreciate that and that things will get much better over time, but this is the one area where I think you really come off as blowing it. (For example, how much of your own time would you have saved along with that of users if you would have made 1 loud sticky Announcement about the email delivery problem instead of having to answer a ton of identical "Where's my email?" posts?) Please do something like put a How It Works button next to Store that explains how the site works, for example how users can play with the kingdom and table setup options that they want.

Here's the real answer: it takes milliseconds for the computer to take a turn; animations take much longer; it's programmed so that as soon as the game ends all animations cease and they immediately cut to the game summary screen so you never see the animations of the final turn. I'm not thrilled with it either. I read somewhere where the option to regulate animation speed is something they will add in the future (but is one of the many things they haven't gotten to yet). As far as the upside down cards are concerned, it appears they are attempting to go to great lengths to try and simulate a real life table experience. If you were actually sitting across from someone playing IRL the top card of their discard pile would appear right-side up to them and upside down to you. I'm sure that's why it does that. I hope for your sake they have some option to adjust that someday. Good luck.

Click New Table then Create Table then Advanced Options and you will see a box labelled Show VP counter which is checked by default which you can uncheck. This only applies to the current table and if you leave the table the next time you'll have to do this again. I'm guessing maybe they'll update this in the future - I don't know I'm just another user. HTH

How to Play / Re: Dominion Online Unofficial FAQ
05 January 2017, 01:14:18 AM
Awesome job, Chris! I'd already posted that this site was screaming for a good FAQ and you delivered. Other things I'd appreciate and I think belong would be further descriptions of 1. Good Match: where you wrote "Good Match will take longer, but will pair you with someone close to your skill level" could use further development (It begs the question "How do I know my skill level, or someone else's?"). I've heard Isotropish ratings are being used to start, but I'm not sure what that means. I had to invent a new persona to get on quicker due to the email delay, so do I have no rating, an average rating, or the worst possible rating? Even before I had only played on MF not Isotropic or Goko, so for someone like that, same question. Of course it also begs the "What's my rating and where do I find it?" question, although I know that's still being worked on. 2. Tables: when I click the Tables button, I see this huge list of tables, some with "play" and/or "spectate" buttons and more. What does it all mean? Does the host have total control of what the kingdom cards will be? How do I know if they have no/Silver/Gold expansions? What about my "Familiar Cards" list? When it says "2 of 3-6", does that mean I could be getting into anywhere from a 3 to 6 player game at the sole discretion of when the host decides to start the game? So many questions.... Still again, thanks and awesome job so far.

Thanks, gkrieg. Good to know they're working on it. I'll wait.
