I'm guessing there are about 3-400 cards to learn at the silver level so that is quite a few.
Silver subscription adds 129 cards to the pool. So 155 including base.

Feature Requests / Re: Friends-only tables?

Here's an alternate approach. I think maybe on the New Table tab it could have a new third option:
New Public Table
New Private Table
Load Old Game

So making a table split into two. Making a public table the same as now. Making a private table asks you to set a password that anyone entering the table needs to supply to join. Then you tell your friends the password. The table is listed on the tables screen with a padlock icon.

This is how the Worms game series did it in Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party and it was very effective, although it also had a public IRC chat channel in the lobby ingame so people could talk to each other and organise games. This was back in the days of before automatch features when organising was the only option.

It is an option when you set up your own table. There is an "Advanced Options" button at the bottom of the screen, this brings up a number of checkboxes, and "Show VP Counter" can be disabled.

It only does this if you actually have any cards in your discard pile.

Have you set it to respect familiar cards? Some of your friends might not have enough familiar cards selected.

Feature Requests / Link to rule books
03 April 2020, 01:08:12 PM
With the current free expansion rotations potentially exposing some new players to expansions they've never played before, I think it would be nice if the client could link players to the official rulebooks on the RGG site. Dominion Online just kind of expects players to already understand how to play with all of the cards and what words like "Exile" and "Coffers" and "Debt" mean.

Maybe a new tab called "Rules" on the main menu that has a list of links to the rulebooks? Could say something like "Dominion Online is the official digital implementation of the boardgame Dominion by Donald X Vaccarino and Rio Grande Games. As with all boardgames, you should familiarize yourself with the rules before you play."

Maybe even link to the wiki? I dunno, just something to help people get over that initial hurdle might be nice.

When you create your own table there is a button to select the kingdom cards. Here you can force particular cards, but any slots left empty will be filled with a random card from the expansions you have checked. (There is a checkbox next to each expansion name) If you have not checked any expansion, it will choose a random card from all expansions.

Other Bugs / Wrong Intrigue 2nd Edition box art

On the account menu there is a list of all expansions with a picture of their box art.

Intrigue is still using THAT second edition artwork. Yeah, you know the one. It should look like this now: http://riograndegames.com/Game/1311-Dominion-Intrigue-2nd-edition

I know that undoing the Play All Treasures button does not need confirmation from the other player. Not sure if there are any other situations.

Goons / Highway / Forum / Trader is an actually infinite point combo. Play 5 highways and then Goons with Trader in your hand. Buy a Forum (that now costs zero) and react with Trader, gaining a silver, a point, and getting your buy back, but not lowering the Forum pile. This continues to work and give points even when the silver pile empties. Repeat buying Forum and reacting Trader until you die of starvation.

Feature Requests / Re: Speed up "make ... resign"

It's not unfair for someone to lose if their internet goes down. There are huge swathes of online games where if you get disconnected for 10 seconds you are thrown out of the game with a loss and no chance of a reconnect.

Everyone's internet occasionally hiccups, it's unfortunate but think about the experience of their opponent who has to sit around for 5 minutes waiting. It's not fair on them. If my internet died when playing Dominion I'd feel terrible in the knowledge that my opponent is forced to wait for ages so they can start having fun again. I want them to move on to the next match swiftly in my absence.

Hot take: If someone has atrocious internet that dies for a minute every 20 minutes, then maybe they shouldn't be trying to use it to play online games.

General Discussion / Re: Trolls

DominionTroll, it astounds me that you think you deserve to be treated with respect despite your obnoxious in-game behaviour merely because you try to act polite when other people are watching. I challenge you to go to a real-life board game meetup and behave the way you do in-game and then try to drop these same justifications against them, that acting horrible is OK because "it's just a strategy". You never will of course, because you only behave this way in private when you think you can get away with it. You are not a shining beacon amongst a sea of foul-mouthed banshees, you're a two-faced hypocrite. Your attempt to claim the moral high-ground is absurd.

Your paper-thin attempts to claim that your behaviour is acceptable because it's "just a strategy to win the game" is merely a refusal to accept the consequences of your actions. You are only lying to yourself. You try to justify it to yourself by telling yourself that it's OK because it's in pursuit of a more noble goal, winning the game. That the ends justify the means. But they do not. The fact that you say you have occasionally felt bad about is telling. It's why you jump through so many hoops to try and pass off your behaviour as being for a greater cause. Because if you had to actually face up to the consequences of what you are doing you wouldn't be able to handle it.

The separation between in-game and out-of-game behaviour is not a large as you think, it's actually non-existent. There are not two different societies here, the same people occupy both worlds.

QuoteOur communities are defined by the worst things that we permit to happen. What we allow tells the world who we are.

Online Dominion for some bizarre reason seems to have long been plagued by a small number of people who seem to enjoy trolling like crazy, even before this particular site. I don't get it. Anybody who sets out to make other users of the site feel bad or angry during their games by consistently trash talking strangers should be banned. It's not a "strategy", you're just trying to excuse the dopamine rush you get by being an antisocial asshole in the place where what you say has no permanent public record.

General Discussion / Re: Game End Log

From another thread:

I agree that it would be better to have both, and it also could/should be easier to access previous games, or that at least it would be very nice to have all that.

The reason for removing the log from end of game now is a bit technical; the information on the end-of-game screen was a mix between information from the gameserver and information from the metaserver. Now that you're only connected to one, it was easier to present information from only the metaserver. Off course that could be solved by sending the gamelog from game->meta->client, and it will probably work that way in some future release.
