Other Bugs / IP change mid-game causes bad things
20 June 2019, 04:38:57 AM
I noticed halfway through a game that I was still connected to my University's VPN and I disconnected. This caused my public IP to changed, and when I reconnected I was in the table lobby, with me and my opponent listed correctly on the left, but two UNKNOWN ###### players in the scoring and deck compositions of a match I had been spectating earlier (screenshot attached).

Please, do not make your emotional well-being dependent on some rating number in an online game, that is not worth it. I understand that you don't want your rating to suffer, but the effect of just one game is usually negliable. You fell exactly into that player's trap. They want to see you suffer in the game, they don't care about your 0.2 level drop after resigning.

I'm sorry, but responding to complaints by lecturing users on how to be better people is not a good response. Many of us do not like to resign to abusive players. Perhaps we can talk to our therapists about why, but the fact remains that there are many complaints along these lines. I wish Shuffle iT would take the measures that pretty much every other game of this sort takes:

(1) Institute a clock.
(2) Allow players to mute their opponents.

Feature Requests / Re: Time controls similar to chess
16 October 2018, 01:27:40 AM
This has been suggested before, but that doesn't make it any less of a good suggestion. Hearthstone, Magic, and pretty much all online card games I'm aware of, have some sort of player action timer. I see no problem with forcing it on people, to be honest, but if you want the option to turn it off for casual games, ok.

I have friends who refuse to play online Dominion when I tell them it has no timer.

Feature Requests / Popup message for disconnecters
16 October 2018, 01:23:00 AM
Not often, but regularly, people disconnect from games as a form of resigning, and I have to wait 5 minutes to force resign them. I just had an opponent type "have to go" at the beginning of a game and then disconnect. I have no reason to expect that this is done out of spite---almost certainly they just don't understand that closing their browser window doesn't automatically resign them.

So my proposal: when you disconnect and are force resigned, the next time you login there should be a message that pops up and explains that you were force resigned and that disconnecting is not resigning.

Feature Requests / Re: Block/report

my only concern is that I get blacklisted by people weekly for not accepting every undo request or not caring that I take a while on complex hands.

I don't want to get reported for more than what I am doing. I fear the report thing could be abused.

This is exactly why I want there to be a distinction between blacklisted and being reported for abusive behavior. If you deny my undo, 99% chance I will blacklist you, but it's not because I think you should be punished.

Feature Requests / Block/report
22 March 2018, 02:30:18 AM
I'm sure this has been requested before, but I would like to request a block/report option in addition to the current block and friend options. I know that you say that the current block button does this, but it would be much more satisfying if there was an explicit report button. Sometimes I want to block someone because they're annoying, but not doing anything abusive, and then sometimes I want to block someone and be confident that the devs will look at their behavior. Even better: a text box pop up that allows you to describe the abusive behavior when reporting.

Might also cut down on the name-and-shame issue.

Card Bugs / Re: Overlord + Conspirator

Huh, that's one of the crazier rulings I've seen.

Card Bugs / Overlord + Conspirator
12 March 2018, 04:22:09 PM
Conspirator seems to count Overlord as two cards for triggering the draw+action condition.

Eg.

Play Overlord as Mystic, play conspirator -> draw+action

Or

Play Mystic, play Overload as conspirator -> draw+action

Feature Requests / I don't understand loading old games
30 November 2017, 04:10:40 AM
I don't understand the load old game feature. In theory, this seems like a great feature: I can load an old game to review what I did wrong, try new things out, etc. I expected it to work similarly to loading PGN files in chess or Poker Tracker for poker: I would be loaded into a game where I could step forwards and backwards, and if I wished I could try out new lines. Instead, I have to pick a decision number, and from there all I can do is play it forward against a bot? This seems really tedious to me. If I want to play from a specific point in the game, I need to guess the decision number. If I guess wrong, I can't step forward, but have to exit and guess again. Am I missing something? Are there commands for stepping forward that I don't know about?

I would say:

Level 45+ players generally know what the cards are and the basic strategy for playing Dominion (value trashing, can build an obvious engine, know what attacks are good) but have major theoretical gaps. They often go for points cards too early, or overvalue landmarks such as museum or cursed shrine, especially early in the game.

Level 50+ players generally know what cards are good/bad on a particular board but make significant strategic mistakes (don't value trashing enough, go for points way too early, don't hit the right balance of action generating / draw cards, miss niche card interactions).

Level 55+ players (I am in this group, level 59) generally choose good openings and pick viable strategies, but often make significant tactical mistakes (don't switch from building to greening at the right time, miss endings for themselves or allow endings for opponents, don't hit quite the right balance between economy and draw).

Level 60+ players make very few tactical errors, almost never miss strong card interactions, and are very good at evaluating the relative merits of different possible strategies.

You don't have to be a politician, just a person who cares about communicating politely.

This is pretty annoying. I was near the end of the game and all of a sudden I was told my client was too old and to refresh. When I did, the game was gone. You should either be able to reconnect, or you should prevent new games for some period of time between a software update. So frustrating just to have a long game disappear on you.

This is not intuitive and very hard on iPad.
