Dominion Online Championship 2019 / Rules
30 June 2019, 02:01:13 PM
1. Eligibility to participate
1.1 To enter the tournament you must have a dominon.games Gold subscription starting on or before September 13th 2019, 12:00 UTC and continuing until at least November 6th 2019, 12:00 UTC. The Gold subscription contains all expansions that are currently available online, the newest one being Renaissance.
1.2 Your account must also have at least 20 rated games played (by September 13th 12:00 UTC).
1.3 Each person may only enter once.
1.4 Shuffle iT employees and users who have been permanently banned may not participate in this tournament.
1.5 Moderators (see the end of this document) come in two varieties, playing and not playing. Not playing moderators also may not participate in this tournament.
1.6.Playing moderators will not be moderating at round 4 or later and the Quaterfinals or later (whichever comes first). That is independent of their actual status in the tournament (still active or already eliminated). Playing moderators will only ever moderate matches that are not in their bracket (that means they will only affect matches whose players would at the earliest meet that playing moderator or players they played against in the finals).
1.7. If a mentioned playing moderator is actually not participating in the tournament, they become a not playing moderator.

2. Prizes
2.1 The organizers of the tournament provide a prize pool of 1000€ for the Top 4 finishers. Distribution:
    - 1st: 500€; 2nd: 300€ 3rd: 150€ 4th: 50€.
2.2 If more than 256 people participate in the tournament, players knocked out in the quarterfinals (5th-8th) will receive 6 months of Gold subscription added to their current subscription.

3. Tournament structure
3.1 The tournament will be a single elimination bracket.
3.2 All players will be seeded based on the 2 Player Shuffle iT leaderboard (as of Saturday, September 14th). You can find your current position and level in the leaderboard in the "Leaderboard" tab inside the game.
3.3 If the first round does not have a full bracket (e.g. exactly 256 or 512 players) the highest seeded players will receive byes in the first round, with a full bracket beginning in the second round.

4. Match structure
4.1 All matches are 2-player matches. A match is best of 6 games, a win counts for 1 point, a tie for 0.5 points. Determining who wins the game (or if it is a tie) is the only way in which the score for a game is used. Winning a game by 1 VP is counted exactly the same as winning it by 100 VP.
4.2 If either player reaches 3.5 points, the match is over and the winning player moves on to the next round.
4.3 Both players get to start 3 games. Alternate the starting player after each game. Starting player in the first game should be determined randomly.
4.5 If the score is 3-3 after 6 games, play a deciding 7th game with a random starting player.
4.6 If the 7th game is a tie according to the Dominion rules, the 2nd player in that game wins the match.
4.7 Should a game end in a stalemate, the result is void and the game will be replayed. (It is not counted as a tie.)
A stalemate is a game state where both parties do not alter the gamestate for several turns and do not intend to in the foreseeable future.
If player's do not mutually agree that a stalemate has occurred, players shall continue play for at least 10 more turns. After 10 turns have been completed, the player that disputes that a stalemate has occurred must break the stalemate within five turns by gaining more cards from the supply than they return, or gaining more VP (or losing less) than their opponent. At any point for the remainder of the game, if the disputing player is unable to gain more cards than they return, or gain more VP than their opponent over any 5 turn period, the game is declared a stalemate, and the game must be replayed.

5. Timing
5.1 The tournament starts on Monday, September 16th. There will be one round played each week. With expected participation between 129 and 512 players, it will continue until the week starting November 4th for 129-256 players or the week starting November 11th for 257-512 players.
5.2 Players are responsible for scheduling a suitable time with their opponent to complete the match during the week. Make sure to state your time zone clearly, or give times in UTC, when making scheduling proposals.
5.3 You can sign up until Tuesday, September 10th, 12:00 UTC. If you meet the eligibility requirements (point 1), you will be guaranteed a place in the tournament.
5.4 If you sign up later, you will be placed in a waiting list. Players in the waiting list that meet the eligibility requirements (point 1) will be used to fill up the tournament bracket up to the next power of 2, if the number of eligible players from 5.3 is not an exact power of 2. This will be done in ascending order of signup time among those players (first come, first serve).
5.5 Signups definitely close Friday, September 13th, 12:00 UTC.

6. Scheduling
6.1 Once the bracket for each week is released, contact your opponent as soon as possible via PM on this forum to schedule your match.
6.2 If your opponent has not communicated with you by Wednesday, 12:00 UTC in the week you are supposed to be playing, please contact the moderators.
6.3 Your match should be scheduled to be concluded before Monday, 6:00 UTC of the following week.
6.4 If your opponent does not show up to the match, you move forward to the next round (allow a grace period of 30 minutes).

7. Environment
7.1 The default is playing on the Shuffle iT platform (dominion.games), with the point counter enabled, on fully random sets including all expansions up to Renaissance and all released Promo cards (including Church and Captain).
7.2 The default is to disable liked cards, and enable disliked and banned cards (the table default configuration). In addition, do not change your banned list during the match. If your match needs to be continued later, restore the previous ban list before continuing.
Rules update to be used starting round 3:
7.3 Games are to be played rated by default, unless agreed otherwise by both players. In that case, for documentation purposes, please record the game numbers (found in the chat box at the start of each game) in your matches in case of any disputes in scores reported.
Previous version:
7.3 Playing rated games is recommended for documentation purposes. If you do not, please write down the exact game numbers for each game (found in the chat box at the start of each game).
7.4 The default match configuration may be changed by mutual agreement between both players. (e.g. disable point counter, always include/exclude some cards, etc.).
7.5 Using card trackers is forbidden. A card tracker is any system (besides the Dominion Online platform), at least partially automated, that keeps track of where cards you can't currently see are.

8. Spectating/Streaming
8.1 Please allow spectating for your tournament matches.
8.2 Players can hide their hand from spectators at their discretion by setting the option "Spectators can see my cards" to "No". This option is found under the "Options" tab on the main screen.
8.3 Make sure the table setting "Players can see spectator chat" is not enabled. This setting is found under the "Advanced Options" when setting up your table. This allows spectators to discuss the game without interrupting the players (or giving them hints inadvertently).
8.4 Streaming your own match is allowed and encouraged. Setting a few minutes delay is recommended.
8.5 From Quarterfinals onwards, every match will be streamed. Moderators may influence the scheduling to ensure no overlaps. The Players will not be penalized if this leads to a delay in the schedule.
8.6 The third party streams will be screened with a 10 minute delay and the live spectating will be limited to the streamers.
8.7 A dominionstreams Administrator account that has special spectating privileges will be used to view and stream the match.

9. Undo
9.1 Players may state (before the match starts) the undo policy they want themselves to follow, like they will be granting no undos at all, granting all undos for effects that did not reveal information to the asking player, or that they will decide on a case by case basis.
9.2 The default policy, if a player does not state anything, is to grant all undo requests for a small number of decisions, for effects that did not reveal information to the asking player.

10. Handling Disconnects
10.1 If you disconnect during a game, use the reconnect feature. If your opponent is disconnected, do not make use of the "make resign" feature. This will not be counted as winning the game.
10.2 If the disconnect takes an extended amount of time, write down the game number and reload the game (latest decision) at a later date.
10.3 Instructions for using the reload game feature can be found here.
10.4 If reloading the game fails, complete the remaining games of the match first. If no player has reached 3.5 points after completing the remaining games, contact your moderator about the lost game.

11. Sportsmanlike Conduct
11.1 As in every other game on the platform, sportsmanlike conduct is expected. Verbal abuse or slowplaying (not to be confused with taking time to think) may lead to a disqualification.
11.2 Keep in mind that in a competitive situation such as this tournament, players take a long time to consider a play. Do not make use of the "make resign" feature if your opponent is thinking.
11.3 If you are unsure of why your opponent is taking a long time to make a play, you should ask them to explain the situation.
11.4 Be respectful of your opponents time. You should make an effort to focus on the game and play at a reasonable speed. Inform your opponent if you are considering a complex play that may take a long time to decide on.
11.5 If you feel your opponent is breaking the rules of conduct, you may suspend the match and contact your moderator.
11.6 For any conflicts not covered under these rules, please contact your moderator, who will have the final say on the issue.

Hey everyone,

signups (including late ones) are closed. Everyone in green is accepted and playing, everyone in red unfortunately not.

Seeding will be done according to the next ratings update (European Friday --> Saturday night) and pairings will be posted on this board.

If you want to participate in the 2019 Dominion Online Championship, please use this thread to sign up. The tournament will start on Monday, September, 16th. Regular signups are closed now. Late signups are possible until September 13th, 12:00 UTC, with a high chance that everyone who signs up and meets the requirements will be able to participate.

After signing up, check out the part below this a bit later to find out if everything is OK for your signup or if there are problems that need to be addressed.

If your username on Dominion Online is different from your forum username, please mention it in your post. Please remember that your account should have the required Gold subscription lasting until November 6th 12:00h UTC or later and 20 rated games played by September, 13th, 12:00h UTC.

Please use this thread only to sign up. You can ask questions or make comments here and read the rules there. Other types of comments will be moved/removed from here. If you need to sign out, make a new post to say so.

Summary: You must have a current Gold subscription to play. That means being subscribed to every expansion (up to and including Renaissance), from September 13th, 12:00h UTC until at least November 6th, 12:00 UTC. Also, you need to have 20 rated games by September 13th, 12:00h UTC.

---

Here you will find a list of people who signed up and which (if any) requirements have not yet been met.
The final update to this list will be made some time after September 13th 12:00h UTC.

If it says pending subscription after your name, you need to go to the in-game store and purchase a Gold subscription to complete your signup. If you buy between August 7th and the final deadline, 3 month of Gold subscription will be enough.

If it says pending #games that means you haven't played 20 rated games yet. You can find your number of played rated 2-player games by clicking on the "Leaderboard" tab. It is on the right side, the number following "Games".

If it says name not recognized please send a PM to Ingix to inform him of your in-game name.

Dominion Online Championship 2019 / Welcome
30 June 2019, 01:49:04 PM
Hello Dominion players,

Welcome to the 2019 Dominion Online Championship! Besides the Dominion League, which operates around the year, the Dominion Online Championship is a once per year tournament open to all Gold subscribers. Last year, over 250 players participated. If you dare step into the ring, we wish you the best of luck, as everybody vying for the title will be giving it their all. Remember to think carefully about the kingdoms set before you and the strategies your opponents will use, and above all else, have fun!

You will find all the information for this tournament in this subforum. Please make sure to read the rules carefully before signing up. If you've signed up, don't forget to check the forum when the tournament starts on September 16th. We recommend forwarding personal messages on this forum to your e-mail, if you don't visit this forum frequently.

If anything is unclear, don't hesitate to ask, either here or in the Q&A thread.

Here is the format summed up:

After everyone is signed up, we will create a full bracket seeded by your rank on the leaderboard. It's a single elimination tournament, that means after you lost a match (not a game), you are out. All matches are 2 player matches.

Each round, you have one week to play your match, which consists of six games against your opponent; the first person to win more than three games moves on to the next round, the loser is eliminated. If you end up playing 3-3, you play an additional deciding game.

The matchups for each round will be found in a separate post in this forum (usually named "Round 1", etc.). You or your opponent can report the result of your match on a page that will be given in that post.

We will continue to play one round each week until we reach the finals and subsequently have a winner.

The semifinalists will earn some sweet cash prizes, including 500€ for the Champion!

To participate, you need to have a current Gold subscription (all sets up to and including Renaissance) between September 13th, 12:00h UTC and November 6th, 12:00h UTC. Also you must have played atleast 20 rated games on your account before September 13th, 12:00h UTC. If you don't want to deal with time zones, buy at least 2 month worth of Gold subsciption anywhere in the world any time of the day from 7th of September to 12th of September.

You can check your current subscription status in the Account tab of the game. All expansions should be in color and have an ending date 2019-11-06 or later (the format is year-month-day). If it is exactly 2019-11-06, you need to figure out your local time zone in relation to UTC to make the check. If you need to update your subscription, remember that you'll only need to pay the difference to the time you are already subscribed to.

Looking forward to an exciting tournament!

I get the same behaviour with Firefox and Chrome on Android (your picture looks like that configuration). On Desktop both work. I'm not sure what the reason is, both browsers not supporting spinners at the same time seems too strange to be true.

AI bugs / Re: when does Mining Village work?
28 June 2019, 10:42:23 AM
This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the text is supposed to work. Mining Village does not say "When you play this...", because that is the default for text on an Action card. You wouldn't claim to be able to draw 3 cards if you have a Smithy in your hand, or you deck, would you? Why not, it doesn't even come with any restriction?

For Mining Village to work as you intend, it would have to be worded:

+1 Card
+2 Actions
You may trash this.
    -----------------
When you trash this, +$2.

Then you could play and trash it for $2, but you'd also get the $2 for Remake or similar cards. It would give you $2 when you trash it from the supply with Lurker, and when your opponent makes you trash it with Swindler (I'm not sure if the $2 on opponent's turn would do you any good normally, it's been ruled that the +1 Action from playing Caravan Guard during opponent's turn does not carry over to your turn).

Note that the ------- (a horizontal line on cards like Highway) is what separates the "on-play" text on top (which gets executed when you play the card), from the text below that can work at any time and in any place (unless restricted, like in Highway's case).

I think Tunnel is as close a card to your intended Mining Village as currently exists. It gives you a nice effect when you discard it other than during clean-up, but doesn't allow you to discard it by itself. You need to do so yourself (Cellar, Forum) or use it when opponent Militia's you. Beginning players then make the opposite error to you, they think they can just discard the Tunnel "for no reason", because why would it have that ability if you couldn't?

So generally if something is mentioned on a card in the "on-play" part, it only happens when that card gets actually played. If similar circumstances happen at some other time, the on-play effect does not 'carry over'. Trashing Mining Village any other way than by playing it will not give $2.
#2301
Have you selected the checkmark on the Advanced Options?

I still get the Min/Max rating difference.
#2302
Would be nice of other iPad users to chime in with a "works/doesn't work for me", so we can see if this is a widespread problem or not.

@Livo: What browser are you using to play Dominion Online.
#2303
As can be seen in the screenshot, Lord Rat has trashed down their deck to 5 cards, which they have all in their hand (or paw?). So Lord Rat has no deck to draw from and no discard pile. Since there is no card for Lord Rat to reveal, there is also no card to trash and no card for them to gain. That's why the game isn't asking you to select one.

Yeah, I see those messages and forward them to Stef if he hasn't seen them himself. Further communucation (if necessary) is usually done by private messages or email, that's why there usually isn't a direct reply here.

Card Bugs / Re: Game Breaking Inn Bug

Thanks for the report, Seprix!

It seems to happen when the Inn is gained from the trash, as in your case with Lurker.

Interface Issues / Re: Sauna and trashing
04 June 2019, 04:56:37 PM
This behaviour of not asking for trashing on 'Play all Treasures' is intentional. If it doesn't ask when you play it 'by hand', that is a bug and if you can point to a game number where that happens, it would be very nice so there is a starting point for a bug hunt.

The intent behind "not asking for trashing on 'Play all Treasures'" is that it makes it possible for all such plays to be undoable without opponent approval, and that was implemented for the Renaissance release (which featured Ducat, which was feared to produce lots of cases where a player presses 'Play all Treasures, only to want to undo that by keeping a Copper in hand to trash).

Note that the trashing itself is not the problem here, but there are several cards that have draw effects when trashed (say Overgrown Estate or Cultist) and so the player could potentially see information before the undo that they shouldn't have. Since Sauna was the only case that could produce such a problem, it was changed such that it only asks when played individually.

Other Bugs / Re: Score panel page does not load
03 June 2019, 11:25:07 PM
Thanks for the report! I asked a few questions on discord about the problem, it looks like you are using Chrome on Windows 10. From the screenshot it seems clear that some problem exists with javascript and angular. What happens in that situation if you hit reload (Ctrl-R)?

For attachments, I think most people would prefer simple screenshots, instead of screenshots as parts of documents which they may not be able (or willing) to open.

Card Bugs / Re: Forge
27 May 2019, 11:53:53 AM
Thanks for the report, Sandrinette. I assume the game you are talking about is 27049933, it has Forge and contains the situations you described.

What I think happened is that you got confused by the interface. Your first example seems to have happened at your turn 10:

Turn 10 - Sandrinette
S plays a Forge.
S trashes 3 Coppers and an Estate.
  S gains an Estate.
S buys and gains a Copper.
S draws a Copper, 2 Silvers, a Witch and a Venture.

You played Forge, then trashed 3 Coppers and an Estate. Since Estate was the only 2-cost card in the game, the game automatically gave it to you (see the bolded part). When you thought you were selecting the card for Forge to gain, the game was already in the buy phase (your hand was empty), so you actually bought a Copper (as can be seen in the log).

The second example was later in turn 19:

Turn 19 - Sandrinette
S plays a Peddler.
  S draws a Silver.
  S gets +1 Action.
  S gets +$1.
S plays a Forge.
S trashes an Estate and a Forge.
  S gains a Platinum.
S plays a Platinum and a Silver. (+$7)
S buys and gains a Gold.
S draws a Silver, an Estate, a Peddler and 2 Ventures.

Again, since Platinum was the only 9-cost card, it was automatically given to you after you trashed an Estate and a Forge. Now again you moved to the buy phase, as you had no more Actions. If you have autobuy enabled, the game would now show you all the cards you can buy with the money you have generated ($1 from Peddler) and Treasures you have in hand ($7 from Platinum and Silver).

That makes $8, which allows you to buy the Forge you mentioned, but not the Platinum you were looking for at this moment. This is the same misconception as above, you think you are in the Action phase selecting what to gain from Forge, but are already in the buy phase buying a card. Unfortunately, the game interface does nothing to show you explicitely in what phase you are, making this misconception possible.

Slowplayers are a reality. Threads/reports about them can be found here or here .

Im not sure if you (refugee/aim4whirledpeas) knew that, at least your postings seem to suggest that this behaviour is new to you.

The fundamental problem in dealing with them is that accounts are easy to ban, but banning players is hard, they just make a new account. That is not speculation, that has happened several times, and apparently repeatedly by the same person(s).

Doing a general IP ban is problematic, it can affect people not involved (think WLAN hotspot at a university).

The proposed method to handle this is to resign if you detect this, and blacklist that account (click the lightning bolt icon at the end-of-game screen). If you want to blacklist an account later, just click the "Friend List" tab at the top of the screen, click on the "Blacklist" button, enter the account name in the edit box at the bottom of the screen and click "Add".

That means you will not be matched against that account in the future. You will take a ratings loss for the resign. If/when that account is later banned, the ratings loss will be gone. But the main idea is to minimize the influence that toxic account has on your game experience.

Some players, maybe many, disagree with that approach, and want something more to be done against those accounts. As I tried to explain, it's hard to reach beyond the account to the player behind it.
#2310
Text of Hovel: When you buy a Victory card, you may trash this from your hand.
Text of Haunted Woods: Until your next turn, when any other player buys a card, they put their hand onto their deck in any order. At the start of your next turn: +3 Cards.
[emphasis mine]

Note that both cards trigger in this scenario on the exact same thing: You bought a Province.
There is no formal distinction between both card's effect, both a are triggered effects. Since they both instruct you to do something, you can order them as you want, probably trashing Hovel first.

Again, there is nothing that indicates that Haunted Woods' effect should be treated with any preference over Hovel's. Both are 'on-buy' triggered effects.
