General Discussion / Re: Undoing

Just to clarify, you're saying the person denying an undo is at fault for taking away their opponent's fun?  I don't follow that logic.  In the event that an undo is denied, %100 of the fault and responsibility lies on the person requesting the undo and they frankly need to suck it up.  I agree with your first point that making some undo's automatic would be great as long as new info hasn't been revealed (and as long as it doesn't reset the 5 minute per action timer).

Good guess, not banned though (yet).  I was just curious actually and bored at work.  Looks like the ducks are in a row.

General Discussion / Is it legal to ban people?

Just a thought.  If somebody pays a subscription and subsequently get banned, do they have a case for legal action?  Most gaming companies have a ToS (Terms of Service) agreement that if broken, may result in a legal ban.  I don't remember signing any ToS for this game.  Let's say I pay, then I slow-roll, then I get banned.  Am I entitled to my money back?  Have my rights been violated?

My thoughts on undo:

1) I like it as a feature.  Misclicks happen.

2) Each request is just that, a request. You are at the whim of the other player if you are asking for an undo.  You had 5 minutes to plan out each action, it's your fault that you misplayed.  May your opponent have mercy on your soul!  I don't think I have ever denied an undo, but if someone denied me one I wouldn't blame them, I'd blame myself.

I agree, adding a strategy section would be very easy to do and would help this forum out.  Seems like the first thing people visiting the forum would look for.

Either that or provide a link to the other forum on this forum and in game so people can find what they're looking for.

Oh, I don't disagree that a person should be making decisions about reports and bans.  The way it should work is if someone gets multiple reports, (let's say 10) then it triggers a review by a real person to see what they're being reported for.  I'd argue most people aren't going to be reported 10 times.  And if they are, then the number can be increased because let's face it...trolls will get reported more than average players so it should be obvious who needs to be looked at.

If somebody makes 50 accounts to report you, they would need to get in a game with you 50 times on each separate account to be successful.  I don't usually doubt the persistence of trolls, but that is a lot of effort and would be an extremely fringe scenario.  This is assuming the report function is only available while in or after a game with another person (as it should be imo).

Instead of slowplaying, the trolls are now just going to hit the report button on anyone they feel like.

This usually isn't too much of an issue with reporting.  The people who get looked at will be those who get reported multiple times.  Trolls will get reported lots of times.  They may report lots of people because they are trolls, but their reports will be spread out across a large population which usually doesn't result in one person getting reported many times by trolls alone.  In short, ya you will get reported by trolls, but not enough to warrant looking into your activities.

It was a rated game. Not sure if it was my first time matching with them. I'm not a fan of public shaming so I won't post their username here.

The purpose of a rule is not to teach people human decency, that is well outside our scope.  It's to mitigate the impact those bad apples can have on others.  Sure, a blacklist will help perhaps...but having rules that are so easily abused is a welcome invitation for trolls and a big reason why they are such a problem.

You give people too much credit.  Of course we should all have human decency.  But that simply is not reality.

Update: just beat a slow-roller.  Took me over 2 hours.  Said they were slow rolling because I got lucky drawing chapel with estates.  Do we really expect someone that deranged to know that what they're doing is against the rules when it's not explicitly said so?  And the game makes no effort to prevent it?

Agreed.  A simple clock is not a good solution.

I could argue that the longer I spend taking my turn, the more time I have to think and the more likely I am to make the optimal choice.  Therefore I will always take the maximum amount of time that the rules allow.  When do you draw the line and call it abuse if it's well within the rules and I'm simply exercising my right to taking my time?

This hypothetical sounds silly, but it is rationally sound and I use it as an example to point out that the rules themselves are silly.  Rules are very important in games.  If there is no rule limiting the time to a reasonable amount, then it is simply flawed.  The tabletop version has no time limit, sure.  They are assuming that you aren't going to play against people who troll you.  On the internet, you will inevitably be faced with trolls, so you have to control them with explicit rules.  This seems so obvious to me from a design perspective.

That doesn't mean they're right.  Including an in-game disclaimer that slow-rolling will result in bans would be a good start.  It's currently the most effective way to get wins hands down.  If you're incentivizing players to do something, then banning them for it without warning, is that right?  At least a disclaimer would warn them preemptively and possibly scare some of them off.

There are always idiots or trolls.  This is just the way of the internet.  "If you build it, they will come."  so to speak.  It's just a matter of how you manage them.  If you give them power, they will exploit it and ruin it for everyone to the extent that it is possible.  Dominion is not in any way immune to this.
