User that insults your strategy

It's frustrating when an user calls your strategy "shitty".

It happened in game #11811080 on oregon.
User was "[redacted]".

Thanks for reading.

Well.  The internet is not known for cultivating good manners.

It's always disappointing to read stories like yours.  Fortunately, they seem to be happening less and less frequently on this site.

I have no problem with other people criticizing my strategy.  (It hasn't happened yet, but I guess it could, of course.)  In fact, it would be something I'd appreciate . . . that's how we can learn when we play stronger players.  Obviously, it would be great if people give feedback kindly, rather than being jerks about it--as happened to you.

Don't let it discourage you from continuing to play others.  :-)

Thanks.

I wrote this down so that maybe players will like to blocklist users that can't help but insult or be rude.
I mean, you can also pass by, not say anything, and go to the next game.
What did force him to insult me AFTER the game was over?

There are several users who do that.

[redacted] is another one of those users that don't have an ounce of politeness in them. I ended up blocking him after the X number of game that goes like this:

- He is winning. He complains about how much luck I have. Say I am too easy when he wins.
- He is loosing. He complains about how much luck I have. Insults me when I explain I disagree.

Stef

please, please, don't put usernames on the forum of people you had bad experiences with.
I can understand the urge, but public name&shame is a process I don't believe in.

Try to just blacklist them, and if you really feel that isn't enough contact jsh or me on discord or the forum here.

On a related note, please add an option to mute chat.

You are talking about your opponent(s) here or about spectators? I assume the first, but just want to make sure.

Sometimes it doesn't feel quite enough to blacklist a member, when they are doing strange things to annoy you.
I just got beeten by a stronger member, and I have no problem with that. I learn from it, but then he og she doesn't end the game after having bought the last Province, because he/she still has buys. I ask, what we are waiting for, and he/she says: wait for it..., and when I ask for what, he/she says: I have not ended my turn yet, I want to make you wait some, just for fun. I tell her/him, that I have taken a screenshot, and then he/she ends the game - but he/she can still annoy others even if I blacklist her/him?

That sounds like more than enough reason to blacklist, in my book. Just ask yourself: "do I want to play another game with this person?"

If the answer is 'no', then blacklist them.

dextrapunch

And this is why I ended up blacklisting over 50 users here. Many like to do stuff like:

- lose time on purpose
- Insult you
- Avoid ending the game even in clear vantage, to humiliate the opponent
- etcetera

I really can't understand this!

blamelewis

I'd be careful leaping to conclusions about people's reasons for not ending a game - the quoted example certainly was nasty gloating behaviour, but perhaps some people like to try to get the highest score they can when winning, so might prolong a game to do that... it's not necessarily about trying to humiliate an opponent - and if a game is clearly lost you are always free to resign!

That said, it is a shame some users are unpleasant or worse, and the blacklist tool is useful both for avoiding those people, and also just for avoiding those whose play style doesn't suit yours...

Hope you're finding other folks more courteous...

Best
Tim

Whenever I encounter "trash talking" in the chat window, I usually:

  • Don't respond.
  • Stop reading the chat window.
  • Win.
