Card Bugs / Re: Mystic unable to guess travelers
20 February 2017, 06:56:32 AM
Sorry Donald X. I wasn't very clear.  I was trying to say that this is expected.  I should be able to name cards not in the kingdom.  Theoretically I could name the Superfralicagilistic card.  When the card I revealed didn't match that name I wouldn't get it :)

Thanks for adding the clarity I failed to add earlier.

Well it's been a while since my previous post, but here are some of my findings.  I'll also apologize for hijacking a thread initially meant for just the VP counter and summarizing all scaling issues I'm seeing but it seemed better to capture it all in one place rather than multiple similar posts.

==========

With my current resolution and scaling factor on Windows I find I get the best victory point counter size when I have Chrome scale to 67% (yes zooming out makes the name/VP font bigger)

Some other scaling notes:
- Size of cards played, moved, displayed when other actions are made, etc are a bit odd.  They seem to be a factor of the number of players and not the size of the screen.  I just played a 6 player game and some of the cards were huge as seen below.

- Scaling of the name fonts is dependent on the number of characters leading to inconsistent font sizes which makes shorter names feel like they are yelling at you "BAD ADVISOR" as seen in the attached image

- Scaling of fonts in different areas use different factors resulting in some text being relatively huge and others relatively tiny.  The size of the fonts should be relatively similar and should not have such a large discrepancy between them as the size of the screen changes.  I've attached an image showing just the right hand side of the screen so you can see sizes of names vs. logs vs. card text vs. status text.

- Attached you'll also see the final score screen which again has very disproportional font sizes.  In particular the player area has relatively huge text and too much white space.  The score area has relatively tiny text with relatively huge names again.  Again I think all of these fonts should be relatively similar or with only slight variation from one to the next.

Card Bugs / Re: (maybe not a bug) Farmland

According to the dominion wiki the act of buying happens before the act of gaining, so this behaviour would be correct.

QuoteRemember that buying a card happens before gaining it, so all these effects happen before you gain the relevant card, and before any of its on-gain effects happen.

I'd argue that's counter intuitive, but so have spoken the dominion wiki gods!  :P

This was reported as fixed in the last release (1.1.0) with the little text box that lets you type in the name of a card.

I gave it a shot to confirm and you can name cards that aren't even in the kingdom now.

"J wishes for Spoils but reveals Silver"

I also tried wishing for a Page, also not in the kingdom.

The only issue I can see with this is of course the Blackmarket deck where you can't actually remember what that awesome card you want is called. I suppose that in real life you wouldn't be able to name it either so this could be a non-issue afterall. :P

I now look at the forums every couple weeks, see that it looks like no major progress has been made, and lament that we're wasting our free year subscription.

I've had to re-frame things in my mind so that I don't feel so pessimistic.  That re-frame is that we haven't been given a free years subscription out of kindness or because of money spent on another product with the same name. It isn't that they were doing it to showcase their new product.  Instead, the free subscription is because the product is still in development.  Thinking about it that way makes it more tolerable, to me at least, that it's still missing almost all of the features that I enjoyed about the MF version (and ultimately why I bought all available expansions on that platform).  For clarity those are:
- Campaign Mode (interesting variants and different challenges/bots)
- Bots with different characteristics/levels
- an interface that let me play it is a game and ignore the logs
- platform specific clients (iOS/Android/PC) so that idiosyncrasies between clients didn't impact play

Perhaps this re-framing will help others come to terms with the state of the current implementation.  Tying this back to this thread (communication), I would have been more understanding if this is how it was communicated at the beginning and before launch.  That is, not as a free year subscription, but a transition subscription while the product is finalized.  With that in mind perhaps throw a BETA indication on the main screen to identify that it isn't at full capability yet.  I wouldn't take it to the same extent Google did though (https://gmail.googleblog.com/2009/07/gmail-leaves-beta-launches-back-to-beta.html).

I'm still hopeful that the ShuffleIt crew will come to the realization that communication is a fundamental part of product development and customer satisfaction.  Once they've realized this then start providing some meaningful progress updates and forecasts.  Ultimately that's what I think this thread has been asking for.

Under the current implementation when there is a problem (not enough players, unowned cards, etc) the way it is communicated is via a dialog box.  The problem here is that in Chrome after the second dialog box appears there is an option to "Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs".  If you accidentally select this option there is no longer any feedback as to why things are not working.  Clicking Ready just does nothing.

For those not familiar with the option it can be resolved by closing the tab and opening a new tab as the dialogs are specific to that particular session.  The problem here is that someone who is not familiar with this may be left wondering why their game won't start.  Reloading the page does not re-enable the dialog boxes only closing the tab and reopening it, or closing Chrome and reopening Chrome.

Beginning players or those unfamiliar with this feature in Chrome may be left thinking the game is broken.  There should be a better way to do this that does not involve Dialog boxes.

Interface Issues / Kingdom Selection - Unowned Cards
16 February 2017, 05:11:45 PM
I always struggle with whether something should be reported as a bug or a feature request when it's an interface issue.  But rather than argue semantics here is my issue

Selecting a specific kingdom and choosing cards that are not part of your subscription produces the following pop up:
"You don't own the selected card"

The problem is that there may be as many as 14 different cards in the kingdom and there is no indication which card is not owned.  For someone who knows exactly which expansion each card belongs to this won't be a problem, but for mere mortals like myself this doesn't help.  Suddenly I have to scan through all of my cards and keep asking "Is this part of the x set?"  It's just not user friendly in it's current format.  Ideally the dialog box should indicate specifically which card(s) are not owned.

Thanks.  Confirmed fixed in 1.1.1

Card Bugs / Re: Sentry card won't show trash options

I also found the size of the cards got significantly bigger by going full screen on my PC.  I also found the best fount layout for me was when I zoomed out to 63%.  The fonts for the VP counter and name acutally got bigger when I zoomed out.  There's some wacky size calculations going on in this thing :)

Just a note that the original post indicates this was on an iPad.

I'll also note, for further data in trying to resolve this, that I tested this on my PC and my iPad mini 2 (both with Chrome) and could not reproduce it.

Good luck.  If I get a chance I'll check safari on the iPad as well.

I can reproduce this one as well.

I can see in the kingdom selection screen all cards showing, but when I click ready the event cards are missing.

I did some basic testing on this and it seems that if all 10 kingdom cards are manually selected then the events/landmarks are not added.  Removing one kingdom card and setting it to random means that the events/landmarks are included.

While I personally appreciate the "workaround" suggest by using /undo or /undo 10 in the chat. I have to say that I think Grando's point is valid.  The current Undo button is inadequate.

I can't remember where I learned the /undo command, but in my mind the button should do the same thing as the command.  It shouldn't be doing a "/undo 1", but an /undo with a "Please select where to undo to" or, as I think they are currently working on, an undo until the last point where what I know about the game changed.  The current requirement to use a command line prompt leaves beginning players confused and causes posts like the above.

I'm not sure my above paragraph is clear, but I haven't had coffee yet! :P

Thanks for the quick confirmation that this was a bug and that it will be resolved in the next release.  I'll try it again when that release comes out.

As noted in Subject I played a BoM as a TM and had a real treasure map to trash with it.

"S plays a Band of Misfits.
S plays a Treasure Map.
S trashes a Treasure Map and a Band of Misfits."

My understanding is that at the time of trashing I am trashing two treasure maps so should get the gold.

I did not.
