Support / 5+ game with friends

Hi, I was trying to play with friends (me + 4 friends for 5 total) the other night but couldn't get everyone on the same table. We could get 4 of us in the table, but the 5th wasn't able to join (tried with max players at 5 and 6). We were playing Base only, do we need Intrigue for more than 4 players?
