played cauldrons, bought many action cards, and no curses were given. I don't see any defense or reaction cards so i'm not sure what i'm missing.
I checked the original game (the other has internal errors).
The reason Cauldron(s) did not give Curses on your turn 10 and 14 is that you had already gained 3+ Action cards (e.g. Horses via Paddock, Ferryman+Cavalry via Artisan) before you played the Cauldron. So when you bought more Action cards after playing Cauldron, it never was the 3rd Action card you gained that turn, but the 4th, 5th a.s.o.
You can see that counting in action on turn 9 of your opponent. They gained 2 Horses via Cavalry, then played Cauldron, then bought Flaghship, which gave you a Curse. The Flagship was the 3rd Action card they gained that turn, which is what counts. Cauldron does not look for the third Action card gained after Cauldron was played.
