There was a 4-cost card available to buy. I was unable to finish the game because it didn't offer me any turn options.

Gain a card costing exactly Argument0.
Did you try to click on the stack of the 4-cost card? That stack should have shown a plus sign. (The wrong text in the log is a known issue.)

No, because I did not want to buy either card. The plus sign was there but there seems to be no way out without buying the 4-cost card.
The gain from farmland is compulsory.
So if there is a card in the supply with the required cost you have to gain it.
