The presence of the villager token causes the Crown autoplay feature to turn off -- that is, in a hand of only Crown, treasure, and victory cards, with the autoplay option to skip to buy phase selected, playing Crown will result in Crowning no actions and not being able to Crown a treasure. The failure is silent, so if you assume autoplay to work as it has in the past, you will make the mistake.

IIRC, that autoplay works on the condition of 'nothing else to do', so it will (correctly) not activate if you could call a Royal Carriage. The games doesn't 'understand' yet that using a Villager to get +1 Action is pointless if all the other conditions for the autoplay are fullfilled.
