General Discussion / Re: Reloading an old game
11 February 2017, 12:06:33 AM
As I mentioned on f.ds, I was very much hoping to get this feature.  As for what to do with version control issues with old logs, you might try asking the Prismata folks how they deal with it, especially considering that they rebalance the units quite frequently, something that doesn't happen in Dominion since it's based on physical cards.  My best guess is that they keep track server-side of what all units did during each version, and include the version in the replay file.  I don't know exactly what version issues there might be given that what the cards do never changes except to work correctly, but I don't know the underlying code base and how the log is put together.

Card Bugs / Tower not scored?
07 January 2017, 03:29:28 AM
game #139989 on oregon

I don't think Tower was scored at all.  At least, it didn't show up in the after-game report, and the after-game report matched the ending VP even though the game ended on piles and the points for the last pile wouldn't be known until after the game ended.  Unless Tower just doesn't score for base card supply piles, since the last pile out was estates, I had bought 7 of the estates, and the VP counter said that we'd be tied if he bought the last one.  Since there's no way the VP tracker would know the estates would run out, it must simply be the case that the Tower points were not applied.  I think we split the other two piles evenly, put I exited from the game before realizing that the final screen was the only place I could see what all happened that game.

Other Bugs / Re: Game hangs when Provinces empty
02 January 2017, 09:01:05 PM
Tried playing on Chrome and it seems to work fine (other than being surprised the bot bought the last province while more than 6 points behind, so I was wondering why the game was over on its turn).

Managed to get a workshop/gardens board and 3-piled it, and the same thing happened.

Other Bugs / Game hangs when Provinces empty
02 January 2017, 08:49:24 PM
Right after finally managing to confirm my email address so I could actually play them, in three bot games in a row, the game has failed to end and has waited on the last person to play once the last province is bought.  Resigning from this point (the only way to leave without refreshing) causes the game to hang on the loading screen.

Windows 7, Firefox.

I had very high hopes for this project, but it's definitely still a work in progress.  I know that there's no requirement that ShuffleIt provides any transition assistance to players, but I think it's a bit too much to say that what is being offered as of launch is worthy of being called any compensation in transition.  I wish there just was far more done at launch than there actually is.  I will wait expectantly as new features are implemented, but I hope that there's not too much ill will from the transitional customers who lost something far more functional.

I have a suspicion that people who were that interested in the new product that they tried it out the instant it was available are only bluffing (or at least realize that their threat was all bluster) when they say they are never going to come back to this product because of its launch failures.  They somehow had enough interest to try it out and then bitch on the forums, instead of waiting for launch problems to be dealt with and just going on with something else.  It, combined with the fact that they actually were somehow interested in playing Goko's piece of crap, makes me think they'll come back when everything's actually ready to go.

I absolutely refused to pay the previous developers any money because I had already bought the game and was not going to shell out per-expansion yet again.  I am, however, willing to pay a modest monthly fee in order to play the game online.  Paying by the month guarantees a steady stream of income for the providers, ensures that you only pay when you're interested in playing, and requires no large up-front commitment.  I can see the problem for those that paid for what they thought was ownership of the cards online, but they should have realized that there was no such thing as permanent online ownership.  I have very little sympathy for people who decided it was a good deal to buy digital things based on the idea that they are theirs forever, because they absolutely aren't.  And at the same time, I have little sympathy for people who don't want to pay a monthly fee to use an online service.  Running the servers and handling problems as they arise is ongoing and not related to the amount of sales, but is related to the number of people playing.  This is in contrast to a physical product where most costs are based on the level of sales, but where the manufacturer has no requirement to invest in supporting the product after the sale.  If you can't understand this crucial difference between online services and physical goods, well, there's nothing anyone can do to convince you.

Well, I was able to get into a game with someone who apparently was able to confirm their email.  I managed to play a few turns and then I'm not sure if the client stalled or my opponent did.  I reloaded, kicked myself, logged back into the game (yay!) and then my opponent played stuff and we moved on.  Then around turn 9 my opponent again stopped doing stuff, and I again reloaded, and this time he resigned.  One thing I am trying to test is whether I'm going to have the same problem with this game as I do Magic Online, because of certain policies of my ISP shutting down inactive connections after a minute.  If the game is trying to find me on the same connection, it's going to fail, and I'm going to be stuck in limbo.  I haven't found any way in particular to test whether it's my connection that's been tossed or my opponent that's just not playing anything.

I am experiencing the same issues.  I try to sign up, the screen is stuck on "signing you up", if I refresh I can log in and poke around but can't start a game.  I have tried this with two user names.  I was able to receive the confirmation mail to activate my forum account to post this message.

Also, the confirmation email went to the spam box; Google says it doesn't conform to some guidelines or something.
