Card Bugs / Re: Harbor Village on Clerk
22 February 2023, 07:27:30 PM
Wow! Thanks so much! I thought that the reading was basically the same as in "the next time you play an Action Card that gives you +coins, etc." . Didn't think that the card giving you extra coins must follow the HB directly.
Thanks again. And sorry to be an unnecessary bother -- again.

Card Bugs / Harbor Village on Clerk
22 February 2023, 06:46:11 PM
In my game -- no. 117749218 --, specifically on turns 9 and I2 (possibly among others), I thought I was not getting the expected money bonus from the Harbor Village. On each of those turns I was playing the HB before a Clerk. I understand that the coin bonus would not have been due if I had taken the option of playing the Clerk at the very beginning of the action phase, but I specifically chose to be spending an action in order to get the coin.
Unless I'm missing something or cannot count, which is possible. But I tried to check it a few times.

Card Bugs / Re: Fregate doesn't seem to work

I am really ashamed now to have given you all that trouble. I can't believe I have not noticed those discards in the log: I was actually looking for them. But, indeed, it was late and I had to be running. I thought I'd better report this before I lose the game number. I'll make sure to be more careful in the future. Apologies again.

Card Bugs / Fregate doesn't seem to work
20 December 2022, 02:08:27 AM
In my game -- no. 113363821 -- I played a Fregate on a couple of turns, after which, on their turn, my opponent played action cards. Specifically, they mostly played the Overlord as a Coven or as a Mystic. Additionally, they were often starting their turn with extra cards drawn from a Stowaway played on the previous turn. And yet, at no point did I see them discarding cards. The only benefit I was getting from playing the Fregate was the +3 coins on playing the card.

Feature Requests / "Draft" kingdoms
06 January 2022, 05:23:01 PM
... and I will admit that my suggestion is in "draft" form as well, i.e. I don't have details worked out exactly to present here. The general idea is to copy "draft" systems from CCG games and to add a separate game mode in Dominion, one in which the kingdom wouldn't be automatically generated by a randomizing mechanism, but rather made up of cards selected alternately by the players.

It could work either as an alternate-turn choice from a big random pool of cards (like 20 or 30 cards in pool) or as taking alternate turns in choosing one of two or three cards randomized per turn.

AFAIK, resignation in 2-player game is resolved exactly the same way as a game ending in a "natural" loss. I think it poor sportsmanship... to expect the player who is behind to stay in the game and play the role of a boxing sack for several turns. Yet, there are many players who appear to be quite miffed at their opponent resigning -- they jump right off the table immediately after the resignation. I don't understand these people. If you want to play Dominion "solitaire" and keep clocking up the score, please consider playing a bot. Remember that there is another person on the other end of the line and it is also their time of entertainment and competition. Playing a game which is already decided is neither the first nor the other.

If the game were literally in its final turn (i.e. I could be fairly certain my opponent would have the means to end it on their next go), I would sometimes let them do that, although I find it difficult to understand what's so particularly pleasing in buying those last cards needed for the win. My satisfaction comes entirely from winning (and playing well), not from buying cards :).

Thank you! This solution looks a bit fussy, but I'll certainly give it a go :).

I totally support what Josh said, but I would also want to add this:
IMO the 4-minute time alottment for each move is massive. I know that accidents happen: you may have lost your internet connection, ran out of battery, got an important phone call, you even may have had to stop your kid from hurting itself -- sure. In many instances, you have the time to forewarn the opponent  of your impending idleness before it happens. Sometimes you don't. Tough luck... but that's an infinitesimal number of cases, I believe. What you will normally come up against is a ruffian who, seeing they are bound to lose, will just leave the game rather than resign honourably. If anything, I'd be more happy to see the rating punishment for forfeiting on time be very tangibly higher than a normal ratings' loss resulting from a loss.

This is a question of personal preference and you obviously have every right to have yours, but don't you think you're limiting your Dominion experience by wanting the games to feature only a very modest number of cards that you already have figured out through and through? I've been playing Dominion for about 3 years and I'm perfectly familiar with all existing cards. I can easily spot the most obvious synergies. Does it mean that I usually find the optimal strategy. No, of course not! Sometimes, the kingdoms are very rich and offer cards of which several combo strongly. It's difficult to know for sure which of them will be the most promising one. But isn't this the point of playing? Isn't it most fun to keep discovering the possibilities?

I'm not much in favour of unnecessary visual gimmicks in dominion online -- I think the game attractive and fun enough in itself to do great without much embellishment.

However, I think that an (optional) animation poping up at the moments when cards are being shuffled would be both cool-looking and pretty useful. Sure, every seasoned player is much used to following the log. Sure, the deck has a number showing the number of cards left before the next re-shuffle. And yet, I'd be very happy to have this added (and fun!) visual marker of the  important point in deck rotation that the shuffle is.

I also think that a card-shuffling animation could tie in more the online game with its physical equivalent, and it could help the novice player grasp the basic idea of the decks' mechanics quicker.

Feature Requests / Replay the kingdom
06 October 2020, 05:45:11 PM
I'm afraid to be repeating an idea that might have been proposed before. It seems very natural and wanting implementation :)  .

I'd like to see a button in the results screen that would propose the players remaining at the table to play another game, but not with another random set of cards, but rather with one that would simply replay the kingdom of the previous game.

It is often that when I play with friends, we hit a game that we really enjoy and that we think very rich in possibilities. Often, one of us comes to the conclusion that their game could have been much better (more successful) if only they didn't buy the cards they did on their early turns. It would be so fun to be able to verify those claims.

I know that we could remember what cards the kingdom featured and simply set a table up manually, but... I mean, what do we have the computers for, right? :)  And besides, I don't think it completely out of the question that even in a game between strangers, they both might fancy giving the set another go to see who comes out on top that time :)  .

I, too, would support this idea.
