I agree. I'm 99% sure that there were many specific error messages for diffferent kinds of problems at one time, but some change made only the dreaded "internal error" message be  displayed to players.

That game has Shaman.

Quote+1 Action
+$1

You may trash a card from your hand.
In games using this, at the start of your turn, gain a card from the trash costing up to $6.

It's very normal that Estates get trashed by a player with Shaman and that the "In games using this" effect has the other player gain the Estates. While you normally have a choice which card to gain from the trash (and get asked about that by dominion.games), if there is only one card in the trash you have no choice and will gain it automatically if there is no other "start of turn" efffect.

That's why it's very plausible that you have 4 Estates (or even more) without ever concsiously gaining one after your initial 3. It was an automatic effect by dominion.games (which in this case obscured the fact that you gained an Estate).

In Shaman games I usually have the trash permanently open, to see what cards await me.

What happened was correct. Note that Trader got errata some years ago use the exchange mechanic for the reaction efffect:

QuoteTrash a card from your hand. Gain a Silver per $1 it costs.
When you gain a card, you may reveal this from your hand, to exchange the card for a Silver.

A card that comes into your possession via an exchange is not gained, so no effects that trigger on gaining (like from Rapid Expansion) happen. The rule was spelled out in the Adventures rule book (which introduced the exchange mechanic for the Travelers):

and is also noted in the updated Hinterlands rulebook in the description for Trader.

Other Bugs / Four estates at start?

Hi,
game 161333082

As the screenshot shows I seem to have 4 estates in this game - with 8 still in the supply. There's no Masquerade or anything like that. I only noticed when I had to put the 4th one on the island mat as well.

Very odd - as far as I could see my opponent had the normal three.

I've had the same several times - setting up a table with a friend, and we're both getting internal error, or sometimes just one of us - but the clue of the table setup helped as I removed events and then we got in to play. Frustrating and a supremely unhelpful error message though!

Game #161316543

My opponent had a trader which he used to react to my Kitsune-curse after rapid expansion was active. This should have set the silver aside and played it at the start of his next turn, but it did not - instead, it just went into his discard.

Hello, my opponent was trying to say something to me, but I couldn't understand - their chat text was full of missing character symbols (I think) - screenshot attached.

My best guess is it's a different character set, or some sort of bug - but never seen it before.

I'm on MacOS 15.1.1 with the latest Safari.

What you say is correct, Rice should give at least 3 coins in that secanario, as the types among your card include at least Action, Attack and Treasure.

The game can't be loaded, so it looks like something did indeed go wrong there.

Game 160939080 turn 13

I have rapid expansion play a familiar before rice, but rice only gives +buy and not +coins despite the action/attack being in play. And I guess rice should also give itself a coin since it's putting a treasure into play.
