Cannot start games with less than all cards

I tried to trim down the kingdom list and excluded adventures and empires. However, when I go to Start Game the screen just goes to the login screen.

Can you maybe describe in more detail what you're trying? Perhaps a screenshot?
I can see it happen to you three times in the log, but I don't know the conditions to reproduce it.

Select Kingdom
Deselect check boxes to right of Adventures and Empires.
Done.
New Table
Start Game.
Crash to log in screen.

yes it has indeed. Will fix it (as in, deal with it in some other way)
